My Quest 2 system might be bricked

So basically I decided to try playing on my Quest 2 and it was working perfectly fine when i was playing at 5 to 7 am and now it’s doing a bunch of stuff basically as if the system has activated a anti piracy feature for a real copy and then it starts at the second screen for after you make a boundary then everything disappears and then it goes completely break mode it starts having the screen do that weird thing where whenever you look somewhere everything on screen follows in perfect sync which isn’t normal then it goes to the boundary making screen which then breaks and starts moving the same as the first thing then it starts saying tracking is broken when my room has perfectly good lights that aren’t too dim or bright and then it starts re doing the thing all over again and when i left it on for a long while it gets stuck on the tracking broken screen i tried booting the device which didn’t work and i don’t wanna lose all my app datas because of a factory reset and i don’t know what to do since we can’t get the Quest 3 right now so can you help me out Meta

Hi @Educatedphat

Quick steps to try...

Make sure nothing is plugged into the USB port (unplug accessories like Elite battery strap)

Do a hard reset by holding down the power button and the volume down key at once until you get the boot menu, select reboot.

Let us know if this helps

Hello there, @Educatedphat. We know the importance of having your Quest 3 in working order. We want the world of VR to be available to you whenever you want to enter it, not just for a few hours a day. So let's see if we can remedy this issue and get you back in the game. Can you tell us the latest update you have for your headset? Can you also tell us the last time you were able to use the headset with no issues? We truly look forward to resolving this for you as soon as possible.

Ok so basically my quest 2 was working fine on whatever day was before when i made the thread and basically exactly at late 12 pm or 12:54 pm when i tried playing the headset was acting up and i would try booting it so many times and that didn’t work basically your 3 screens 1. The boundary making screen 2. The screen after making a boundary and 3. The tracking broke screen would glitch and for some reason it would start at the screen after making a boundary then everything but my home world would disappear and the screen would start doing the thing that only happens when you lag bad enough aka everything on screen follows exactly where you look which obviously isn’t normal and then the Seizure would restart and happen over and over again and when i would sit it down while still on for a few minutes it got stuck on the tracking disabled screen

Thanks for the extended details, @Educatedphat! We appreciate it! Since your headset is having issues during the initial boot process for setting up your Guardian Boundary, a hard-reboot followed by a factory reset would be your best available options. It's possible the software could have been incorrectly installed during the V60 software update, which would be causing the initial boot issues you're seeing here. We know the factory reset process can be quite daunting for some users, especially with the warnings for losing app, account, and game data saved on the headset!

Just to reassure you, all of your content purchases such as games, apps, subscriptions, and in-app purchases will still be available after the factory reset takes place. The Cloud Backup feature on the Quest 2 is enabled by default unless disabled by the user intentionally. Any app data should be backed up to the cloud, so long as the headset is on and connected to Wi-Fi. We recommend taking a look at which apps have their data backed up by signing in here! Keep in mind that while cloud backup is available to all developers, it's up to developers to decide whether to enable this feature for their app and what data is backed up.

Before proceeding with a factory reset, we just wanted to make sure you were able to properly hard-reboot the headset to see if that was able to fix any issues that you're running into after booting the headset.

To hard-reboot your device:

  1. Turn off your headset.
  2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
  3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Boot Device and press the power button.
  4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

If the hard-reboot doesn't end up resolving those boot issues, we recommend going ahead with the factory reset.

Let us know how that works out, and we'll see what else we can do to help!

Hey again, @Educatedphat! Just checking back in to see if your Quest 2 was still having issues with the boundary and tracking lost screens hindering your virtual experience! We'd love to know how the hard-reboot and factory reset worked out!
