My Quest 3 controllers use up batteries when not in use

My Quest 3 controllers drain the battery when they're just sitting in a drawer not being used.

They never turn off completely. They have to consume some power to check if any buttons have been pressed for wakeup, for example, or to detect a nearby headset. Remove the batteries if they are going to be out of use for a long time. This also avoids the possibility of damaging leakage.

Quest 2 controllers never drained the batteries. Yet they had the same feature...

 

They did, as all soft-controlled hardware does. Maybe to a different extent, but it was still happening.

We would love to know if there are any troubleshooting steps you may have attempted. If you haven't tried anything yet, please attempt the following:

 

  • Remove the controller batteries for 30 seconds and any additional accessories. Then replace them with a new pair of batteries.
  • unpair controller from headset.
  • Hard reboot the headset by holding the power button for 30 seconds. 
  • Re-pair the controller to the headset.
