My Rift S may have just died... not sure...

I've only had my Rift S since February 19th. It's practically still brand new. I installed it with relative ease and it was working fine up until today.

I was playing in VRChat speaking with someone while I had the in-game menu open looking for other places to visit. I heard the sound of a device disconnecting and was suddenly "hit" with (for the lack of a better description) tunnel vision. I could still see the menu that was in front of me in 3D, but above, below and in my peripheral vision it was all black with what looked like strands of energy/lightning squirming around. I couldn't get back to my Oculus home without lifting the headset and closing VRChat. I tried to restart the game but it would not load up. So I closed out the Oculus software in an attempt to clear the error, then reopen the Oculus software and try again. It was at that point the  headset would not respond. I disconnected it from the computer plugged it back in and nothing happened. I shut the computer down completely and cleared the capacitors. Still nothing after the restart. I uninstall the Oculus software rebooted and then reinstalled it... nothing. I checked all the USB 3.0 ports, and they work fine. The headset's light just won't turn on after plugging it into the USB port. No sound from the computer saying that a device was just connected. I'm at a loss.

check the weird displayport cable that connects to the headset it may have been pulled on slightly. yes it doesnt feel like it should disconnect because its held in place by the facemask but if you checked everything else then that would be it. i tripped over the cable and it kinda bugged out in a different way. just checking but the oculus software does say that the headset is connected right?

I'm not at my pc at the moment, but as for your question, that's just it... with everything hooked up correctly, neither the Oculus software nor my device manager shows that the headset is connected at all.

So I will check the port on the headset itself the next chance I get. But I I have my suspicions that's not the problem. Before the lifelessness of the device, it's still had some functionality until I closed out the Oculus software. Then, just totally dead.

It turns out that your suspension was correct. I pressed on the cord and I felt it clamp in. Thank you! It must have been pulled out ever so slightly and was just barely any connection to still give me an image before completely giving up.
