My dad had accidentally made himself admin owner of my device and I need help to change it to me.

Last Christmas I had gotten a oculus quest 3 and gave my quest 2 to my littlest brother. I had some trouble setting it up so I had my dad help me set it up and promised me that I would be admin so that I could use dev tools because I want to be a video game designer when . He had made himself admin owner by mistake and I have been trying for so long to make it me. I have tried tutorials on youtube and they all said that I needed to do a factory reset. I don't want to do that so I am here to ask one question, how do I change device owner without a factory reset.

Hey there, @Urshifu101011! We definitely agree with what @kojack said about factory reset being the only way to change admins on the Meta Quest headsets, but we do suggest that before you attempt factory reset, you should use cloud backup. With cloud backup, it backs up your device's app data, like app purchases or app settings, to the cloud. And the great thing is that you can pick up where you left off in a game if you reinstall an app, factory-set your headset, or set up a new device.

Here is a helpful article about cloud backup here. We hope this answered any questions that you had. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with.

Factory reset is the only way.

The admin of the device (called the primary account) is whoever sets up the device either after taking it out of the box or after a factory reset.

If you've been buying games on a secondary account (one that wasn't the admin) then you'll still have those if you reset the headset and set it up again with your account.

(If you've been using app sharing, then that complicates things. As far as I know, only the primary account can share games with secondary accounts. So if your father was sharing games he bought with you, those won't be available to you if he's not the admin)

Ok thanks. I was also going to ask if apps carry over but you had also just confirmed that so I won’t need to worry. My dad only bought games he would play and all the ones I play are ones I bought on my account so I will be fine knowing this. Thank you.

Yep, you should be fine then. Your games follow your account (even to multiple headsets).

Of course you might lose some game progress if it was saved locally. Somes games do cloud saves so they are safe, and things like leaderboards should be fine.

yeah, factory resetting is literally the only option, but you can always send all the data you want to keep to your phone, account data saves
