My quest 3 isn't charging with my link cable and I've had no problem doing it with quest 2 but it just stays at the same percentage.. I haven't tried the charger the comes in the box but It should be charging.

I am using Quest3 for a long time, so please tell me how to use Quest Link while charging it.

I play racing games, because even the slightest unstable connection is unacceptable.

thank you.

May I know how to make the most efficient way to charge up the headset?

What protocol is preferred? QC or PD?

And how about the max accepted DC input? 18w or could be higher when the headset is at the optimized temp?

Right now, if I don't switch off the headset, it costs me more than 2 hours for a full charge because the headset remains ON all the time and I can check the battery via App anytime.

@MetaQuestSuppor

do you have the answer to this?

if you have idea, please send this message.

thank you

I don't think there are any proven powered link cable that meet Q3 specs yet.  I have the original 16Ft Kuject powered link cable I bought from Amazon 2 years ago for my Q2 and while it works fine (2.4Gbps speed test, 500mbps bitrate) with my Q3, it doesn't maintain the headset voltage as well.  I does seem to extend runtimes by at least 2x (3.5 to 5 hours?).  I have tried many different powered pcie cards in the past but none of these perform as well, usually only about 1.5Bbps speed test.

These cables are pretty inexpensive so you may want to try one out.  Their newer PD version, based on a few reviews and reddit comments, doesn't seem to work well with the Q3.  In any case, if you buy it from Amazon it's easy to return for a refund if it doesn't work well for you.

Totally agree and you are not alone in your observations. I never had an issue with battery capacity with my Quest 2 and a high-quality direct link cable while using my flight simulator for hours on end. Battery capacity would never drop below 90%. Now with the Quest 3, I notice battery voltage drop like a rock and be at 85% within 30 minutes or less. Today, after being on the sim for 1.5 hrs, I get a warning my battery voltage is down to 25%!!!!! Nothing else has changed and I started with a battery at 100%. Something is seriously wrong here. Not to mention that twice in the past 2 weeks, my headset went dead and I had to perform 2 hard boots to get it back to life.

The temperature answer just can't be everything, it does not really make any sense. Maybe that's part of the problem, but there are other things goings on for certain.

I am very new to MQ, had it for less than a week. First thing that concerned me was if I can play games tethered and not live by the battery and I have had the worst time with it.
I will start off that I do use third party cables and charger (fast chargers for Samsung phones to be more exact, several) and they have the most problems. However it's not about slow charging, it's about not charging at all. If I use the charger that came in the box with the silly short cable, usually it works just fine, as expected. Every third part cable/charger combination has failed me so far.

I have had times when I had the headset plugged in a wall for charging, the orange light was on but it just was not charging, after 6 hours the battery was still at 2% where I left it. So then I figured out that just removing the cable completely, then first putting the cable into the headset and then putting the charger in the wall actually forces it to start charging normally, with the same speed the box charger does.
However it does not solve it. 3 times in a row now the headset charges to 34% then just stops charging (orange light still on). So what I do is repeat the re-plug procedure and magically it then charges back to 100%

Being tethered to PC or to the wall while playing - either there is no difference in how long the battery lasts or it's so small I do not even notice it. So that's pointless with the cables I do have.

I really would not mind spending money for the extra battery or the expensive link cable if I had any confidence that it worked, but it makes 0 sense to have extra battery plugged in if even tethered to the wall MQ3 can't take extra charge while it's running. That said it's clearly not power issue, it's software limited.
I don't throw out money for hardware that will come become e-waste in a couple years, I like to test it out so I am glad I didn't just buy the cable and strap from get-go. I love the experience using MQ3 but my only problem right now is this and it's enough for me to regret buying it at times till this issue is fixed.

Anyway, if someone does want to take a second look at this thread in future, here are my data:
1. Headset full version number: 57.0.0.297.669.526537896
2. PC App full version: 59.0.0.138.366
3. Not on PTC
4. Unplug charger and cable from MQ3, plug in cable then charger back. (It was still plugged in because I finished gaming with battery low and then just turned off the headset. Orange light was on but charge did not go past where I left it)
5. 3rd party for the most part.

EDIT:
I would like to update my previous post a bit.
For some time now I haven't come across the problem that MQ3 stops charging altogether, now if I leave it charging it always goes to 100% eventually. Thanks to that also when playing games while tethered to a wall I can play for more than 6 hours (haven't really tested full time possible that way) so it is now at least managable - I am no longer limited to 2 hours and main annoyance has dissapeared.
I don't know how, I certainly did not change anything on my end so it was either some bug that somehow went away or an update pushed to the headset.

It is however still not ideal that I can't charge the headset up while playing so this thread remains relevant.

Really would appreciate this not being marked a solution and continue to dig in on this as it doesn't make any sense. Nor did the remark on PD port make much sense.

This also doesn't really explain why it's only an issue over official meta link cable and not airlink. Same exact scenario and using airlink with a nirvana battery pack it will take the charge up every time no issue but link cable with same exact power output spec USB charge ability and it will not.

I've been looking into this since I get my Q3 and it sounds like a poor software or PD  strategy for controling the charging and/or poor thermal management of the battery.

When the battery goes past a certain temp the software will stop the charging until the battery cools down again, as it does with most lithium batteries and as the Q3 is working harder than the Q2 I'm assuming it gets hotter under load? (I've not used a Q2 so don't know)
I'm using a link lead with USB injection, the PD charger is powering the link lead using a PD lead with a wattage display, I can watch the charge rate drop off as the headset warms up.

C'mon Meta this needs addressing, we shouldn't be taking the headset off and having to charge it mid game.

Hey there, @The_Wolfman. We really want you to be getting the most you can out of a fully charged headset. Can you tell us how long is your playtime with a fully charged headset? We hope to hear from you soon!

If you're the author of a thread, remember to mark a reply as the Accepted Solution to help others find answers!

I get around 2hrs from fully charged to it turning itself off through 0% battery

Am I right in thinking the charge limitation is due to the battery being to warm to allow further charging?

Do you have any plans to extend the play time on the Q3?

I think what most people are saying is that they are finding the interuptions in gaming sessions frustrating, it can be quite a while before you're back in the game, coming from a vive I'm finding this so annoying that I'm already looking for alternative headset (although the Q3 is really good apart from the charging issue)
