My sad experience with my oculus rift and Meta Quest 3s

I've been a huge fan of VR gaming for years. I tried some friends' setups and thought they were amazing since the first Oculus Rift.

I've been waiting for years for the opportunity to own one. Last year, after a lot of effort and savings, I decided to buy a used Rift. I started playing it and it worked wonderfully. My favorite game of all time is The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim, and I got it for VR. I played for a few hours on the Oculus Rift, and everyone who experiences VR gaming knows how awesome it is. I would come back from work and play for an hour. After around 2 months of playing, I received a message that I should update the Oculus Rift, and of course, started updating.

To my despair, after the update, the Oculus turned on and off, and the display never worked again. I searched online and saw many issues like mine, and attempted all fixes, but none of them worked. I felt really sad because I really loved playing and missed it. After around two weeks exhausting the options, I quit trying to make it work...

The sadness was so visible that my wife realized and this year, she convinced me to buy a new version so that I could go back to playing. I went to a big well-known store in January and decided to buy the new Meta Quest 3S, which is very expensive for me, but even so, my wife still convinced me it would do me good. The difference in graphics and experience is hard to describe in words. Playing on the 3S felt almost real. I've been playing around 1 hour a few days a week since this January. It was perfect and I was having a blast playing, really enjoying it, especially Skyrim and the games called The Thrill of the Fight 1 and 2.

Yesterday, it was the first day I had some extra time and decided to play longer than the usual 1 or 1 and a half hours. Everything went great until the time I was done and turned it off to start charging. It had 13% battery left, and as always, I used the charger that came with it. After around 2 hours charging (which usually is enough time to get to 100%) I disconnected the charger and turned it on. As soon as I did, there was a warning about the USB port containing some debris or liquid (the USB was disconnected). After that, the display turned off, and exactly as it happened with the Rift, it never turned on again. I tried to press the button for a few seconds and tried the reset. After charging a bit more, I was able to hear the sound of the 3S starting and thought it was back and working, but it never did.

I spent the night trying to follow instructions from the forums to make it go back to work, tried to test the charger on my phone, which worked normally. Used a small brush to clean the port and tried again. It would either show the front LED on (white light) or the charging LED orange light on, but nothing else. I was able to return the 3S to the store since it hasn't been 3 months since I purchased it.

I'm back where I started, no Quest, no fun. Not feeling like trying to get a new one after all that, at least not now. That was my unfortunate experience. I hope no one else goes through that. Good luck everyone...
