New Facebook T&C Refund

I have received new T&Cs today and cannot use my Rift unless I accept them. The T&Cs are saying that I have to transfer my account to Facebook. I am not interested in having my account transferred to Facebook. Am I able to return my Rift for a refund?

You are given the option to continue using your Oculus account. You do NOT have to have a FB account.

The T&Cs (and that post) say I can only use my Rift until January 1st 2023 unless I sign up to Facebook. As I said this is not an option for me so this is why I'm looking for a refund

Just tie it to a FB account.

@rebeccasky Not sure why you posted this. My original post specifically mentions that I won't do this.

Don't blame you a bit.  The moment they take away my access to product I have already purchased, for not having an FB account, is the day I say adios.  I will use my rift equipment for target practice in the desert.

Don't buy any software on the oculus store, get it all on steam.  3 years is an eon in technology time, it's worse than dog years.  Your HMD is likely to be either a paperweight or ready for an upgrade in 3 years, just buy a non facebook branded hmd.  With your games being purchased on steam, you won't be locked into a propriatary ecco system that only caters to a particular brand unless you use hacks.  Some of us knew what they were up to and bought nothing but the Oculus exclusives from the store, everything else was from steam.

After January 1, 2023 you will still be able to use your Oculus account. Facebook says (and don't forget that Facebook won't change it's mind at any time) that they will continue to allow existing Oculus account holders to use their hardware with apps/games. They do also say that some of them may no longer work without a FB account. I think I could guess which ones will stop working.

In all honesty, if your device (in my case CV1) is still working on Jan 1, 2023 then you will have had a good run. At any time facebook could stop providing spares (cables, etc) for your device or simply stop supporting it.

For now, enjoy your world beating Rift until it falls apart. I have cotton wool wrapped round my Rift cable to get it to Jan , 2023 and beyond.

This a quote from Facebook....................

Further, the company says that existing users who opt not to merge
their Oculus account with their Facebook account can continue using
their headset as normal until the end of 2022, after which the
company no longer guarantees “full functionality” without the use of a
Facebook account.

“We will take steps to allow you to keep using [Oculus] content you
have purchased [after 2022], though we expect some games and apps may no
longer work,” the company says. “This could be because they include
features that require a Facebook account or because a developer has
chosen to no longer support the app or game you purchased.”

Thanks for the advice @falken76 and @Richooal. I suppose 2023 is a while away. I have only bought things from Steam so far and I'll be sure to stay away from making any purchases from Oculus in the future.

I do still love playing on my Rift so I'm sure I'll get my monies worth!
