I just drop the big bucks for a new Rift set. During installation everything was going smoothly until the firmware update for the sensor. Please note the stage that occurs at. I had already plugged in everything, had everything connected correctly, and set up the controllers.The firmware update for the headset and controller went fine. During the next step of updating the sensor firmware, the Oculus software restarted from the very beginning, requiring me to create accounts, and register payment methods. During the next step of plugging in the HDMI and USB 3.0s, The headset indicators bounce from recognized to unrecognized. The sensor just straight up says there's an error. After about 30 seconds of that, it just sits in a state with 3 gray circles. I have updated my usb 3.0 drivers and windows 10. Please help! I'd love to be able to enjoy money well spent!
Answer: Early USB 3.0 drivers suck hard. Use USB 2.0 in these cases. It's not as "required" as they imply.
Try plugging the sensor into a USB 2.0 port to see if it works. I think some people are also using USB 2 ports for the sensor. USB ports and this product are picky for some reason. Somehow I lucked out and my motherboards USB and drivers actually work. This seems to be a rarity for some reason....
You can usb 2.0 for the sensor. The only problem is that it will keep coming up with an annoying error message What motherboard do you have?
