I had a bright idea earlier:. If I can use my pc to play games on a large screen on my meta quest 2, is it possible to do this with a Nintendo switch in any way? It would be awesome to play Splatoon 3 or Smash Ultimate on a humongous VR screen. I am up to using mods on my Quest 2 but not my switch.
Edit: I also have a PC if that helps
TL;DR, is it possible to play switch on a big screen in vr?

Nintendo switch has some VR games via labo. Nintendo Labo: VR Kit Starter Set NSW Switch) https://a.co/d/inlHepR

I'm not asking to play in VR, I'm asking to use a big screen in VR, like a virtual desktop-esque big screen virtual monitor thingamabob

It needs an extra bit of hardware, but I just tried and it works. Here's what I did:
- Switch in the dock
- Dock's hdmi cable plugged in to an Elgato Camlink 4K (a hdmi to usb capture device)
- Use some program that can view usb cameras. I used the built in Windows 10 camera app in video mode.
- Airlink from Quest 2 to PC
- Open a virtual monitor from the dash bar
You should now have the Switch's screen showing as a big VR window. You can move and resize it with the Quest controller.
I didn't try to get sound working (I don't think the win 10 camera app has sound monitoring), but probably VLC or something would do it.
There are cheaper HDMI to USB capture devices, I just happen to already own an Elgato Camlink 4K. 🙂

I'll try this. Thanks for the help!

I just had a thought... since the virtual monitors can be pinned and stay there while VR games are running, it would be possible to do things like play the Switch in a smaller window while in Elite Dangerous flying to a distant station on autopilot. 🙂

Quick question: I'm looking to buy a capture card and they're all a little expensive for something I'm not gonna use all the time. Would a USB a to HDMI cable work in place of the capture card?

Those cables are most likely going to go in the wrong direction: output from a computer to a tv/monitor, not input from a switch to a computer.
There's some capture devices around that are a lot cheaper than the Elgato. I see Amazon has a $15 one that claims to be Switch compatible and has a fair number of 5 star reviews, although I haven't tried it myself (so I'm not recommending it, just pointing it out).

Unfortunately there's not much option other than a capture device, Nintendo are pretty restrictive on how their things work. There's free software solutions for capturing android devices and streaming to PC, not just phones but even Quests, but there's no equivalent for a Switch.

Sorry, another question. Any noticable input delay? I'm not talking about airlink because I know that has delay, so I use cable. Any input lag with capture cards or does it depend on the quality of the card?

Hi there! Your idea of playing Nintendo Switch games on a large VR screen sounds intriguing. However, I must clarify that officially, Nintendo Switch does not support virtual reality (VR) functionality. Unlike the Oculus Quest 2, which is specifically designed for VR experiences, the Nintendo Switch does not have built-in VR capabilities.
While there are third-party accessories and mods available that claim to provide a VR-like experience for the Nintendo Switch, it's important to note that these solutions are unofficial and not supported by Nintendo. They may involve modifying or hacking your Switch, which can void your warranty and potentially lead to other issues.
That being said, if you're looking to play Nintendo Switch games on a bigger screen, there are alternative options available. You can connect your Nintendo Switch to a larger TV or monitor using the HDMI output. This will allow you to enjoy the games on a bigger display, enhancing your gaming experience. Additionally, if you have a capture card and a PC, you can connect your Switch to your PC and use software to display the game on your PC monitor or even stream it to other devices.
