No HDMI found + Firmware not available

Hi,

I purchased an Oculus Rift yesterday. I plugged it into my Graphics Card via DVI-> HDMI adapter, which was included with the ASUS HD 7970 Direct CU II (I know the 7970 officially is too weak and not supported, but other people here claimed that the GPU is able to power the Headset). The USB Cable is connected to one of the USB 3 Ports of the Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 Mainboard.
Then I downloaded and installed the Oculus Home Setup for Windows 10 and now it complains that there is no HDMI connection. I tested the DVI-> HDMI configuration with another monitor and audio+video seem to work perfectly fine there. The Oculus programm also says that the firmware version is not available, which irritates me even more.
I already checked the cable on the rift, so I don't think the cable is loose or something.

Edit: I also tried other USB ports to see if that helps. At least the audio seems to work on the Rift.

Do you have any solutions?

Thanks

Not all adapters work, is the adapter HDMI 1.4 or 1.3 compatible?

I think this depends on the GPU and yeah, the AMD 7970 supports HDMI 1.4a

That's not what I meant. The dongle/adapter itself .. there is more than one variant.

I don't know, there is no information about the adapter, but since it shipped with the GPU I think it should also support 1.4a. I have now also tried a DisplayPort-> HDMI Adapter and it also doesn't work (no HDMI cable detected). It just makes no sense and looks like a faulty unit to me.

Did you try re-seating the cable at the Headset end? You will need to take the front face off (the soft foam bit) Unplug it gently and reinsert.Be gentle.

I did that too, but it didn't help.

Are there any requirements for the adapter? Like Active/Passive/Additional power output/...? The documentation isn't relly helpful about this.

Passive only and one that supports HDMI 1.4 .. they aren't expensive so might be worth checking that out.

May I ask why only passive? What are the problems/difficulties with active adapters?
