No longer charges past 97%

Ever since the v47 update, my device won't charge past 97%.  The light stays orange.  I have to hard reset the device and even that isn't guaranteed.

Also, some software shows it's installing, but stays that way until, again, I reboot the device.  Why does Oculus have so many issues and why aren't these causght in testing??  Seems to be a standard with Oculus after an update.  Frustrating to say the least.

The 97% max charge issue is from not using the OEM (Meta's) charger (charging block and USB C cable).  If you get the OEM charger, it will solve the problem.  I believe this is a safeguard put in place by Meta's software to prevent dangers of overcharging via after-market chargers.  Not charging batteries to 100% is also better for lithium-ion battery longevity.

I have had this issue now with 4 different headsets, all of which I purchased used and without the OEM charger.

It's also worth noting that my quest 2 is charging at 98% right now (using OEM charger) but the charging indicator light is green.  I can tell that it's charging at 98% because now, a few minutes later, the battery is at 100% (and stays that way after disconnecting from the charger).

This has annoyed the bejusus out of me - hopefully this reduces someone's frustration.

I have the same issue even now, every vr i buy seems to get alot of problems. I have the same problem as you with my current vr.

Hey there, @Rubycats! We want to help you get your VR headset charged to 100% so that this issue can be a thing of the past and you can get back to enjoying the world of VR ASAP!

Please try the following steps:

  • Make sure to have charged your VR headset for at least 2 hours without the facial interface on (the facial interface may block the proximity sensor) and powered off.
  • Try a different cable or charger; if possible, test the cable and charger (adapter) separately to determine the faulty component.
  • If you use your headset with the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories, disconnect the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories and try charging the headset again.
  • Try charging from a different source (another PC or a different wall outlet).
  • Hard reboot the headset.
    • Hold down the power button and volume-down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound.
    • If the boot-up sound is not heard, enter the USB Update Mode and select "Boot Device."
  • Cloud backup (which helps with backing up device data) then factory reset

Also, please let us know if you've spilled any liquids on your headset. Please let us know if any of the steps helped out or if you are still in need of some assistance!
