Hi team,
I'm getting micro lags and stutter in Airlink on my Quest 3 (EU/UK), esp. when moving my head. In the Oculus debug overlay this causes brief spikes in transmit/decode, fps drops and visible stuttering. The issue is not present on my Quest Pro with otherwise identical settings - see below screenshots to illustrate.
Few more details:
- Issue is not present on Quest Pro with same settings on HMD, router and PC (using same res)
- Issue is worse at higher bitrates, esp. >200mbps, but still present <200mbps
- Issue is unrelated to PC/game latencies (CPU, GPU, Queue each <5ms)
- Stutters/lags are intermittent (every 10-20 seconds) when not moving but happen immediately and reproducibly when moving the head to either side or especially looking downwards (i.e. on any bigger headset movements)
- Wifi 6E router (TP Link AXE75 EU/UK)
- EDIT: exact same issue with Asus RT-AXE7800 (EU/UK) wifi 6e router
- Connection shows as 2,400mbps
- Airlink codec H264 (but same on other codecs)
- I've attempted factory resetting, installing latest drivers
- Updated to v62 and latest Quest Link desktop version (I can see the 120hz option for my Q3)
- EDIT: Ordered a separate Quest 3 for testing: presents the exact same issue
-EDIT: Same issue on 5ghz 802.11ax 160mhz BUT switching to 802.11ac (!) completely fixed the issue. I cant test this on 6ghz but looks like 802.11ax or something related to how q3 implements it is the culprit
As the issue is worse the higher the bitrate and not present on Q Pro with otherwise same settings, I suspect it's related to the below known Wifi issues - but opening a new thread as instructed.

Best,

Updates:
- Tried separate router: exact same issue with Asus RT-AXE7800 wifi 6e router
- Ordered a separate Quest 3: exact same issue on both routers
-Same issue on 5ghz 802.11ax 160mhz BUT switching to 802.11ac (!) completely fixed the issue. I cant test this on 6ghz but looks like 802.11ax or something related to how q3 implements it is the culprit

Well, while it may not be ideal, using 802.11ac for the most stable experience currently seems like a practical workaround. If future updates to the Quest 3 address the issue with 802.11ax, you might be able to switch back to Wi-Fi 6E for potentially higher performance.

Hey @Godsblink! They actually have not told me if they have or not, I've been pushing for info but it might take some time before I get anything to provide. 😕 They don't exactly keep us up to date on every step of the way but they'll usually reach out when they've made some progress.

I have changed 802.11ax to 802.11ac and it’s better but still stutters and lags. I did not pay this kind of money to not be able to use my quest 3. It has been working just fine until this V62 update. I am very frustrated because I am not able to stream with airlink anymore and the games I stream are purchased on Steam. So I have to play them through airlink. Is anyone else just now having issues since the V62 came out?

Mine also worked fine until v62. Please include the details requested by the support team so they can keep looking into it and fix.

Tbh, with having in mind that Dev knows - new version introduced the issue, and the amount of reports submitted... This should be fairly easy to isolate. I am guessing it's just a low priority on their list... Which it shouldn't be since it crippled wifi6e across the whole customer base.

Technical support simply ignores all the information I collected and the video recordings provided. Their answers are simply devoid of logic and meaning; they expect that the problem will be solved by itself and that I will close the case. One of the answers "quote":

Tell me, can anyone repeat this test in their virtual environment of the meta quest itself? Do you experience stutters like mine?

The v63 update was taking ages so I opted into the public beta program to get it running and tested.
I've only got the 5ghz band on my router setup and i'm literally staring at the router from where I used the quest 3. Problem is still very much present. Headset is essentially unusable for this purpose as anyone would get motion sickness trying to use it like this.
Seriously! Wheres our help?!

I also updated to firmware 63 today, but it didn’t make any changes. I’m just as upset as you that I haven’t been able to use my headset for 2 months since I bought it. Perhaps a new headset will be released soon, but I still can’t play on my old one. It seems to me that we are all dealing with a defective product and support is simply stalling for time so that we cannot make a return.
