Not Solved - Quest 3 stuck in firmware update loop

A few days ago my Quest 3 rebooted by itself, showed an icon of a chip with an arrow pointing to it and a green progress bar, which most probably means it's trying to update the firmware. Since then I've tried literally everything, multiple reboots, factory reset, sideloading an update via the Meta web page (error connecting to device), got several firmware versions from cocaine.trade/Quest_3_firmware and sideloaded them with adb (which at least _appeared_ to do something), but the problem persists: After every reboot the device goes into that firmware update mode and after it, it's a black screen.

Meta let me down... refusing any meaningful support and also the replacement of the device on the grounds that it's half a year out of warranty. I loved the Quest 3, but this horrible attitude towards the customer is shocking.

Same thing happened to me exactly two days ago!

I'm still looking for a solution..

Let me know if you found a solution, but also if you are stuck with a bricked device.

Even after mailing back and forth for a week, Meta refuses to help me. The only option they offer is buying a used device for $340. It's mind boggling they can get away with this after they actively broke my device.

Yeah that's a bit negligent/ignorant.

Its possible you could make progress by disconnecting the headset's battery for a while - a bit like cmos for pc - but to get to it would be a mission from what I have seen in tear-downs.

However Meta should be able to tell you where the upgrade is stored waiting for applying and then have an official means of deleting or resetting it. Perhaps that can only be done by a technician however and it seems they would rather just swap it for another rather than fix it? and have the customer pay for it regardless. 😠

My sympathies. Meta are kind of a useless company or so I have discovered.. and then they wonder why VR doesn't have as many customers as they would like....

Do you have a small claims court where you live? Even if Meta don't want to show perhaps they will be prompted to reach a better settlement say a refurb for $170 ??? Good luck.

BTW not sure where you are in the world but maybe contact these guys.  https://www.fixmyoculus.com/

They might be able to shed some light on the internals if Meta won't.

@3dspace Whilst getting to the main battery connector is a bit fiddly, it's not impossible. Good call on the fix my oculus suggestion. They could even be pointed in the direction of this thread and may have some suggestions on a fix or be interested in getting the headset for a future video.
