Nvidia 451+ drivers = Dropped frames on high spec AMD PC with CV1

On my hardware, the Oculus drivers don't like the 451+ range of nvidia drivers (With the GPU Scheduling feature)
Lots of dropped frames and latency n/a's
CPU = 3950x
GPU = 2080ti
MB = Gigabyte Gaming 570x
RAM = 32GB cl14

Original Post:

Can anyone offer any advice?

I'm experiencing random frame drops with my CV1 (even in home).
FSP drops from 90 to 87 for a split second.
Latency randomly goes from 23ms to n/a for a split second every second or so.
Performance Headroom is around 75%

Latest Windows 10 and nVidia Driver.  Latest Oculus Client.  Also tried the beta with no luck.
3950x CPU, 2080-ti GPU  Gigabyte Gaming MB (x570)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like AMD video card owners also have some issues. That's why I still prefer Intel and Nvidia. I haven't had any issues with my rig - and I've had it for more than 3 years.

If your rig performs perfectly in 2D games, might be the Oculus software. You could try to contact Oculus Support and hear if they have any ideas. Oculus is often very slow to support new hardware.

He's only using an AMD cpu.  Should work ok.  Maybe make sure you have enough cooling.  Apparently the stock cooler is not sufficient.  Also, make sure you have fast RAM (+3000).

It feels like something is interfering with the oculus drivers on an intermittent basis.

I am rolling back to a virgin install backup I made when I first bought this machine to see if it's something I've added along the way that is causing the issue,

I guess I am seeking feedback here to see if others have had the same issue.

Thanks for the assistance.

Well I did my roll back tests and installed various versions of the nvidia drivers etc.

I have conclusively proven that in my case, with my hardware, the 450+ range of nvidia drivers (those with the GPU Scheduling feature) break the oculus drivers.

446.14 works fine with only the rare drop of a frame

451.48 thru 456.38 sees significant frame drops and latency n/a 's every second.  (Occurs whether GPU Scheduling is enabled or not)

Ya, I have found similar problems with current nvidia drivers.  I'm actually now using 442.19 because I get the best VR performance with it.

I've reported it to the help desk.

This issue is still active (Jan 2021) and has NOT been solved.  nVidia are working on it.  Oculus may need to coordinate with them to help them find a fix.
