It seems that many people that have bought the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU (to run the Meta Quest 3 VR headset) are having compatibility problems with the PC Oculus Software app. The Oculus software says that it "doesn't meet minimum requirements" when in fact it exceeds minimum requirements. I've been working with meta support team since January 3rd and still haven't resolved the problem. They have been helpful but it seems that we keep going around in a circle trying the same things over and over again, much like a dog chasing it's tail. Some of the useful Meta support items that they had me do are:
- updated the drivers on: a new Asus Intel I9 CPU gaming motherboard, the BIOS, the RTX 4070 GPU
- the Oculus app has been updated in beta mode (seems to be important)
- Forced the PC Oculus Software app to the "Preferred Graphics Processor" to the High-performance Nvidia 4070 Processor { Settings >System>Display>Graphics add the OcuclusClient.exe file, click Options box & select High Performance GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40470, click save }
- determined that most USB 3.0 link cables sold are in fact USB 2.0 cable. Meta Link requires a minimum USB 3.0 cable connection, so unless the description says it is a 3.0 or 3.2 cable assume it is a 2.0 cable. I purchased a USB 3.2 cable for Quest 3 VR from a local high end computer store for $34.00 and it now works without the Oculus warning "USB 2" message. Meta's cable is $110.00. (PC must have USB 3.2 ports for the cable)
So, the problem has not yet been resolved. I think the Oculus app is using the RTX 4070 GPU. Is it using it at it's full potential or has it been downgraded? No one knows.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Great question @HashandHeadies! We can provide this link that shows that the GPU should be compatible. If you have further questions don't hesitate to reach back out!

So you will hear out people that cry out for support for Nvidia GPUs BUT NOT INTEL ARC GPUs?!?!? THE INTEL ARC IS 2 YEARS OLD AND YOU JERKS CANNOT EVEN BE BOTHERED ENOUGH TO TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? I can't even play any games that I've purchased because you jerks won't acknowledge this part of your customer base. I didn't buy games from your store just to not be able to play them because you guys don't wanna support a 2 year old GPU. God, I wish I could refund all of my games. We've been begging you guys for 2 years, provided evidence that these GPUs CAN IN FACT RUN VR THROUGH THIRD PARTY APPS (ALVR) AND WE GET IGNORED!

If the 4070 Super is compatible then explain this

Hey there @PhattyTuna! Being able to connect your headset the PC app can unlock a lot of PCVR fun. Since I know you're looking forward to PCVR, I did some digging to see how I can help you out on this. I did noticed that the 4070 Super did just come out January 17, 2024. It most likely won't have a smooth run with the Oculus PC app for awhile, but I still wanna see if we can try to troubleshoot together to see if maybe it'll address the compatibility message you're getting.
Can you let me know if attempting the steps I'm listing will help?
Try out all of those steps to see how it goes. If the same issue still presents itself, then it's most likely the card still being very new.

Perhaps Big Tech shouldn't have rushed to AI tech support so quickly. FWIW, I just upgraded to a 4070 Ti Super and I do not get the banner saying my system is inadequate. I am however, still having a problem with no audio in the headset.
Maybe there are some clues here, maybe not. I am currently only running an old Rift CV1. I was thinking about upgrading to a MQ3, but after reading this thread I'm not so sure.
So far, I have only tried running SteamVR as my OpenXR as I only have VR games in Steam currently. But it does work, just without HMD sound.
I can mirror audio and play in VR just fine with bluetooth ear buds. I'd prefer the HMD speakers though. But this proves that the Rift/4070 Ti Super and the current oculus app are graphically compatible. Maybe that can help the powers that be find a solution for the OP and hopefully, for me to get my HMD audio back.
I have not been able to rule out a sudden hardware issue with my headset. It was working fine, just prior to upgrading the GPU. While it seems unlikely that the hardware is the problem, it is still a possibility. If anyone has any tips on testing the HMD speakers to make sure there's no hardware malfunction, I'd appreciate that as well.

Try using Virtual Desktop from Meta. I am using it with the Quest 3 headset and it's supposed to support Rift. I use it to run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 which I purchased from Steam. I can't remember if it uses its own OpenXR or Steams. Audio is not an issue on the Quest 3 and it may work on your Rift.
If you buy the Quest 3 headset, Virtual Desktop works way better than SteamVR and also way better than Steam Link which keeps crashing. I've set the VR graphics in the Virtual Desktop app to "Godlike" and the VR graphics settings in Microsoft Flight Simulator to Ultra and maxed out my 4070 GPU. Graphics in the simulator went from not bad to amazingly good, still not 4090 quality, but massive improvement. Downside, it needs a high speed router linked up to your PC with a cable and Wi-Fi. I used the TP-Link Wi-Fi extender and extended my IP router and it works as good as directly linking up my IP router. Hope this helps.

i have the same problem. i have a rtx 4060 and a ryzen 7 5700X. My rift S works perfectly fine with my old pc with gtx 1070 and i5 8500... and the meta support didn't do anything about it... they said to use my old pc.. GG
