Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU not compatible with Oculus Software

It seems that many people that have bought the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU  (to run the Meta Quest 3 VR headset) are having compatibility problems with the PC Oculus Software app. The Oculus software says that it "doesn't meet minimum requirements" when in fact it exceeds minimum requirements. I've been working with meta support team since January 3rd and still haven't resolved the problem. They have been helpful but it seems that we keep going around in a circle trying the same things over and over again, much like a dog chasing it's tail. Some of the useful Meta support items that they had me do are:

- updated the drivers on: a new Asus Intel I9 CPU gaming motherboard, the BIOS, the RTX 4070 GPU
- the Oculus app has been updated in beta mode (seems to be important)
- Forced the PC Oculus Software app to the "Preferred Graphics Processor" to the High-performance Nvidia 4070 Processor { Settings >System>Display>Graphics  add the OcuclusClient.exe file,  click Options box & select High Performance GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40470, click save }
- determined that most USB 3.0 link cables sold are in fact USB 2.0 cable. Meta Link requires a minimum USB 3.0 cable connection, so unless the description says it is a 3.0 or 3.2 cable assume it is a 2.0 cable. I purchased a USB 3.2 cable for Quest 3 VR from a local high end computer store for $34.00 and it now works without the Oculus warning "USB 2" message. Meta's cable is $110.00.  (PC must have USB 3.2 ports for the cable)

So, the problem has not yet been resolved. I think the Oculus app is using the RTX 4070 GPU. Is it using it at it's full potential or has it been downgraded? No one knows.

I've read your messages and I do also own a Samsung Book 4 Ultra with the 4070 and I9 and I'm also having the same issue with all of this. I guess it's just looking at the intel GPU saying "hey it's not good enough for the vr". So yeah it sucks let's just hope it will be patched really soon...

Yes. A real bummer. I  am going to try my luck with a Lenovo Legion 9 instead. I have to have it working for my work. Very disappointed and I have wasted a lot of money

I've contacted the support about all of this, If they manage to find any kind of solution and it works for me I will reply to the conversation with every steps taken to run a game on the laptop. I don't think they will be able to solve it tho but let's hope to see this resolve very soon because honestly it's not that big of a deal to resolve the issue and especially for a company as important as meta...

If someone can maybe contact the support in this section of the forum so they can send it to the dev team that would be cool!

@MetaQuestSupport Can you check the recent messages? Everything in our config is good for the VR but the only problem is that the meta app recognize only the integrated GPU instead of the 4070 and it just won't launch games at all! (with a red banner at the top saying the config is not good enough even if I have a I9 185H Ultra  / RTX 4070)

Can you foward this to the devs or smt? I would like to use my headset as intended but I can't and it's unfortunate...

Hey there @CRAFTGAMER31

I understand the frustration especially when your specifications match and are more than adequate to run VR.

What I'd like to ask you to do is to update your headset and the quest link app to the latest software version. If you've already done so, then please send a bug report to our engineering team so they can have a look into this issue.

In the meantime I will notify the this issue to the engineering team so they can look to resolve this issue.

Thanks! 🐢

I have stated this previously, in case it might help others, but I don't have a problem with my 4070 on the desktop I built.  I know others seem to be having a problem with laptops.  Is your system a discreet gpu on a laptop?  I've only ever had laptops with igpu, but your comment got me to thinking... my desktop has an intel "f" chip, meaning not igpu.  That could be why I haven't had a problem but others have?  Have you insured that your igpu is disabled in the uefi?  The device manager on windows also has the ability to disable?  How about a registry entry that disables the igpu?  Hope that helps, but you've probably already tried that.  I do recall at least once getting a message that my gpu was incompatible, but the software ran anyway.  I haven't seen it since.

Just booted up the oculus software to find out that my 4060 doesn't meet requirements, any plan to fix that or are you guys just going to keep on forgetting?

If I had to guess, I'd say they layed off the programmers responsible for this part of the system without realizing what they were doing.  It should be a pretty easy fix, add a couple of strings to an array that contains compatible video device information, and then update the function that scans the windows hardware abstraction layer to retrieve all video devices instead of just one.  Then update the comparison algorithm with an extra for loop, and return true if any compatible device is found.
The fact they haven't done this means they can't find the code in the project, can't manage to read it to trace for unit tests that check for regressions, or can't write the tests.
Hence my conclusion that whoever wrote the code originally is no longer with the company.
Wait a couple more years, maybe someone will figure it out.

Hahahahaaha that has cheered me up no end.

Its such a pragmatic and straightforward contrast to the glib bull**bleep** I have been fed by support for MONTHS. How it would be nice to be given a straight and truthful answer

Thank you-- I have forced preferencing the rtx card but have not disabled the igpu-- i will try
