Oculus AirLink crashes & OculusClient freeze in process of re-logging-in if some VR apps are running

anatawa12
Honored Guest

TL;DR of the most important my request:

en: Please do not suspend my playing VR because of re-logging-in of Oculus.
ja: オキュラスの再ログインのためにVRを中断させないでください。

PROBLEM IN SHORT

There are two problems in the process of re-logging-in:
- It looks restarting VR Application is required to re-logging-in.
- It looks the re-logging-in process will freeze if some VR apps are running.

DESCRIPTION

The bad behavior I have is like the following.
Yesterday, When I'm playing VRChat, I found the laser beam of Oculus from my hands.
I opened OculusDash and I found the message let me login to Oculus (I forgot the exact message).
So I clicked button to login & run process to login on web browser via SteamVR.
Then, Oculus Air Link suddenly crashes/stops and it became impossible to reconnect.
I opened desktop, then I found the OculusClient that is not working including close button.
I waited for a few minutes but it still working so I stopped VRChat and SteamVR, killed some processes of Oculus, and restarted Oculus.
Then I could login quickly.

MY PREDICTION

I think the problem is caused by one behavior: restarting Oculus is required to re-logging-in.
IMO, It's very clear that the first problem is by this.
The second problem is not clear.
In the process of restarting Oculus, if some VR app is running, the OculusClient asks us "do you want to close the VR app?"
However, in my opinion, in the process of re-logging-in, the OculusClient cannot show the prompt above so Oculus cannot be restarted.
If there's no need to restart Oculus, the both problems will go away.

ADDITIONAL REQUEST

If It's too hard to implement re-logging-in without restarting Oculus, please implement one option to use OculusDash without logging-in while the currently running VR app is running.

Hello! Thanks for contacting us concerning this issue. And thanks for providing such detailed information! You rock!

We relate to any frustration this may have caused. We'd be excited to learn more about what's going on here!

First, I need to ask a few questions:

  1. When this happens, are you running Oculus apps or SteamVR apps?
    • Or does it happen with both Oculus and SteamVR?
  2. Can you send a screenshot of that error message you got? (if you get it again)
  3. When was this first noticed?

Thanks!

I'm playing VRChat, a SteamVR app.

I will but I can't find how to take screenshot of oculus dash so can you let me know?
> When was this first noticed?
According to my tweets, at least July 19 but I think a few more days ago.

I'm sorry for long time no response.

I found many information during this period so I tell you.

1. Response to your questions

> For us do to so please reach out to our PM's, so we can look into our options!

Do I need to provide information on DM?

I want to make information about this bug public.

> We're checking in on you to see if you still need assistance.

I want fix of this problem but not a assistance.

I have workaround as I told (forcely restart the Oculus complately).

> Can you send a screenshot of that error message you got? (if you get it again)

I found the way to take a screenshot: Oculus Debug Tool.

OculusRift Application (Rift version of VRChat)

2. Other clear situations this problem happens

  • migration to Meta Horizon account
According to my friends, problem is caused also on account migration.
  • log out the account via https://auth.meta.com/settings/security.
I can make the Oculus PC Application logged out from the link above.

With the second way, I can reproduce & provide information about this problem anytime.

3. Similar situations in Japan

I found similar problem was happened around Jul 18.

4. Full steps to reproduce this problem

  1. Start Oculus AirLink
  2. Start some VR application.
  3. Make OculusRift (Oculus PC Application) logged out, via https://auth.meta.com/settings/security.
  4. Wait a while (or click something on OculusClient.exe)
  5. OculusDash's ray will be shown
    SteamVR Application
    oculus-steam-ray.png

OculusRift Application (Rift version of VRChat)

    oculus-rift-ray.png
  6. Now, OculusClient on Desktop is like below
    oculus-requests-login.png
  7. click oculus button on controller to show OculusDash.
  8. Instead of OculusDash, error message shown below is shown.
    SteamVR Application
    oculus-steam-in-vr-error-message.png

OculusRift Application (Rift version of VRChat)

    oculus-rift-in-vr-error-message.png
  9. Click "Log in with email" on OculusClient on desktop and run steps to login.
  10. Oculus AirLink has been crashed.
  11. OculusClient on desktop is still showing below forever
    oculus-continue-on-brower.png
  12. Forcely stop all tasks starts of Oculus.
  13. re-open OculusClient
  14. Click "Log in with email" on OculusClient on desktop and run steps to login.
  15. Now, OculusClient & AirLink works again.

I think 5, 8, 10, 11 is the problem.

expected behaviors:

5: No ray should be shown.

8: OculusDash should be shown as normal. (or show such a message with closable dialog)

10: Do not stop Oculus AirLink during re-logging-in

11: Re-logging-in successfully.
