Oculus Quest 2 suddenly not connecting

Connorfeb2022

I’ve been playing on my Oculus Quest 2 for about a month with no issues.  I’m completely signed up and have even paid for and downloaded a few games.

Suddenly today when I turned it on, it wants me to sign in with my Facebook information.  I thought that was odd, why does it want that?  It has my email I use with my Facebook already there but greyed out so I can’t change it.  Then below it wants my password.  So I enter that and I get an error message in orange color font that says, “This device is connected to an existing account. Log into this account or reset the device to use a different one. Visit support.oculus.com for more info.“

I don’t get why it’s saying that.  I only have one email and password for this specific device.  There is only one account for it.  What does it mean when it says it’s already connected to an existing account?  If it’s already “connected” then why is it asking me to enter my password in to connect?

I’m so annoyed with this stupid thing.  Why do we need to be connected to a Facebook account and an Oculus account?  It’s so **bleep** confusing.  I just want to play on this thing!  😡

I have talked with support twice. This needs to be fixed today. We all have the same problem, but yet only a few are being fixed. I bought this through Sense Arena for training hockey goalies and this has really hurt training for the last two weeks.

I just don't understand why this takes so long.  If unlinking a fb and oculus account is this complicated I really hope someone in the company is working on a better system.

The thing that bugs me most about this is Meta is running ads for the Quest/Quest2 specifically pointing out the "social/multiplayer" aspects.  I'm going on 10 days now of not being able to game with or even meet up with my friends in the "metaverse".   Honestly, this doesn't bode well for making me want to invest any real time in the metaverse.  If one single blunder by one company will shut me out for over a week, I think perhaps, I'll stick to real life for the majority of my social interactions.

Note to Mark Zuckerberg:  You may have changed your company name too soon.

in short. since meta owns oculus. they are doing away with oculus accounts and just using facebook accounts. dont worry you can make all your info private. and any friend you add on oculus wont be able to see your irl name or add you as a friend on facebook

funny you mention
"metaverse" its not even a thing yet. it will take years of development to have a working version.

Well, where we at today? (Yes, my account was fixed days ago, but I can't leave this thread until it's been fixed for everyone!)

I actually appreciate that ahahaha! I still haven't heard of anything since I've tried solving it with @Ryanality Sunday. Was told to keep an eye out for an email, but I was honestly doubting getting an email until this one guy said he received one this morning and was able to fix his account. So here's hoping (to probably no avail) we all get one soon..

Would be cool if everybody who gets there account fixed reports back here, at least to give us still waiting some hope.

There's at least 5 that we know for sure from this thread, and that's just counting the people who're actually reporting back

Yeah, I feel like it'll happen soon. Sounds like they have it figured out and they just need to coordinate getting the fix to everyone. I think you'll all be back in the Metaverse by this weekend! I have absolutely nothing to base that on, just a feeling. Hang in there!

AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm back BABAY

After an intense hour with 3 different support people, I can assure you gentlefolk that there is hope you will be back by the weekend. I went through the steps, made new account, reset passwords, did all kinds of stuff, and finally just as I was at the last step got snagged up and hit a loop where it would have me login with oculus then say login with facebook then say login with oculus - maddening experience. To fix this I needed all kinds of proof I owned the account and headset. No biggie.

In essence: There IS a way to unlink your oculus account from your facebook. Support CAN do this. Try via chat now just be prepared for a long process and have all your emails, logins, serials, and such ready to go.
