Oculus Rift controllers not working in-game after update

smittyncrew
Protege

6/11/2024, allowed Meta Link to update on my PC for my Rift CV1.  Everything still works until I get into a game.  Once I enter the game, the Touch controllers are not detected when moving, and in the game they are at ground level and will not move.  The Oculus button still worked, and I could use the controllers to select quit app, but they will not move while in a game.  So far I re-installed Oculus, but did not delete all the hidden files.  I updated my Nvidea drivers to the latest 555.xx version.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I've been working with the engineering teams trying to get a solution for this issue. HOWEVER, I do want to let you know I've been passing as much information as I can to the them, as well as the workaround that was provided by @8aron. If your issue has been resolved with their method, I advise other users to try this as well. If you're worried about having to do it for every update, I confirmed with the teams, and they told me you can turn off automatic updates for your Rift device. All you need to do is follow the steps below:

  • Go to Settings > Developer > Allow Automatic Meta Quest Link Software Updates > Toggle Off.

After doing this and following the workaround, you shouldn't have to worry about your headset needing to be updated.

I've also been asking teams for an official solution from them regarding this issue. I'm not sure when they will be able to get back to me with additional progress updates. Since there is only so much information that I can relay from here on the forums to them. I strongly recommend continuing to submit bug reports and be as detailed as possible with the reports. Even if you think the information that you provide for them might not mean much, any detail that they're given can be of great help to them. I hope this information helps!

Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The force shall free me.

Same issue w/ Rift.  Controller works to select a game and can even quit a game by opening the menu.  Works in Steam VR as well.  By the instant any game is opened it no longer works (except to open the menu to quiz).

Tried remove controllers and re-pairing them.  Looks like update broke something. . .

Any solutions?

I come across this question a lot but none of them are answered or if they are the answer doesn't work for me.

As the title says, when I play Beat Saber there's zero vibrations, when I open the oculus dash and hover over the buttons there is vibration again. My pc has more than sufficient specs just in case anyone will ask.

Tried:

  • -vrmode oculus (put that both in steam library and in the meta library if that makes a difference)
  • Reinstalling the meta app and disconnecting and then pairing the devices, also leaving/joining the beta
  • Used a powered usb hub and tried other usb ports
  • Tried it on windows 10, I'm on 11, 10 didn't work either
  • Reinstalling the game
  • Updating chipset drivers and GPU drivers
  • Replacing batteries multiple times, even bought new ones just to be sure and no difference
  • Checking if vibration is enabled in game, it is

So as you can see I tried basically everything I could find about this problem and no luck... I'm really determined to make this work so I hope there's someone with a solution that works for me! And I will share it with others that face this issue if there's something that turns out to work for me as there are many more people in the same boat as me sadly...

  • It seems to only happen in most Games / Apps but not all.  I tried Beat Saber, Walkabout MiniGolf, & Deo VR. When loaded the controllers do not work. But for some reason Thrill of the Fight works.  (AFAIK I did not update any of those games apps recently). None of those recognized the controllers inside the game.  However I can still use the controller to bring up the Occulus menu to quit those games/apps (via the menu button on right controller).  Steam VR works as well until I load game and then the controllers stop working.
  • No I don't use any accessories.
  • Yes PC meets minimum specs (intel i7, RTX 3070, etc).

Started right after the Meta Quest Link Software Update (4 days ago)

Hi there, @Lime98! We know controller haptics really add to the immersion of the PCVR experience, so we popped in to help get your Beat Saber back on track! To begin with, we'd like to make sure we have a good idea of the specifics of this situation. When you get a chance, please share the following details:

  • Has Beat Saber ever had controller haptics in the past? When did this issue begin?
  • Where was this game purchased and downloaded from?
  • Is this the only game missing haptics/vibrations of your Rift S?
  • Is the Home Environment having any issues?

Thank you for providing us with an update, @mutilated_puppy. We understand how this can disrupt an amazing VR experience, so we would like to take a closer look into this. Can you please try the following troubleshooting steps listed below?

  • Ensure your area is well lit, with enough light to see clearly but no direct sunlight.
  • Ensure your area is free of small lights, such as Christmas lights or LED strips.
  • Ensure your area is free of reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass, or polished marble.
  • Ensure the tracking cameras are clean. If they need to be cleaned, follow the maintenance and care guidelines.
  • Ensure your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers.
  • Remove the battery from the controller for 30 seconds.
  • Try replacing the battery with a new one.
  • Unpair and pair the controller with the headset.
  • uninstall and reinstall the software on your PC for the same effect as a factory reset.

Please let us know how it goes. If you are still having issues with your controller, don't hesitate to reach out to us again so we can continue to look into other options we have available to get to the root of this issue. We can't wait to hear back from you soon!
