Update:
Hey everyone - This is an issue with our software certification that we're still actively working on. For security, we use a certificate to ensure that the software you receive actually comes from Oculus. That certificate has expired, and we're looking at a few different ways to resolve the issue. We’ll update you with the latest info as available. We recommend you wait until we provide an official fix. Thanks for your patience.

Update #2:
Hey everyone - We're still working hard to resolve the cert issue. We're in the process of integrating an updated cert. Unfortunately, pushing the update out to affected users has some added complexity, as the expired cert blocks our standard software update path. We're working through the options now, and we expect to have more details to share later this evening.

Update #3:

Hey all - thank for your patience. We now have an Oculus software update in place that fixes the issue where Rift may fail to start up. For more info and instructions, please go here: https://support.oculus.com/217157135500529/

Update #4:

Here's an idea.... Get rid of the damn certs.  There's no reason to have these things on add on hardware.  My usb drive doesn't require certs, neither does my keyboard, or mouse, or my usb headphones.


Ummm, WRONG... you have DRIVERS for your usb drive and everyone of them has certs.

Here's an idea.... Get rid of the damn certs.  There's no reason to have these things on add on hardware.  My usb drive doesn't require certs, neither does my keyboard, or mouse, or my usb headphones.  

You already have people behind your lock and key with having to install the oculus software and creating accounts for it, this cert garage is redundant.

I'm not losing anything major by the vr being out, I just find it a little disturbing that a device I payed a fair amount of cash for, as did everyone else who bought a rift, is currently holding a paperweight. 

If there was some sort of disclaimer before my purchase about any such drm or cert lock like this, believe me I wouldn't have purchased the thing.  


Uh, the certs are for the software. The headset won't turn on without the software, similar to how a console works.

Really upset with this problem seeing as I bought my Rift yesterday. I hope something comes of this.


I'm with you, I just waited 2+ months to get my Fanatec steering wheel set for iRacing...now this.

I work in the tech industry and if a cert kept me down this long I would be fired. There is a such thing as auto renew for a certs, may I suggest you utilize that feature. Now tell me how I can use my $450 piece of hardware. Relax, take a walk, take a shower does not cut it. This is frustrating as you just prevented me from a night of relaxation and enjoyment and I spent money to NOT have that... Thanks, I hope your considering some kind of credit towards the Oculus store or something for the time you've waisted and the hope to hold onto the customers you currently have.
