Oculus isn't compatible with system hardware

I just got a new laptop and wanted to use Oculus on it.

However, when I first tried, I got an error saying my GPU was not compatible with oculus link. I have 2 GPUs, an Intel Iris xe and an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti. I found a different forum post where they fixed it by just disabling the incompatible GPU (in my case the intel iris), so I tried that and restarted my PC. After my PC restarted I loaded up the Oculus app again and now there's a different error message saying "Oculus isn't compatible with this system's hardware." and the Learn More link redirects to an error 404 not found page. Due to the different error message I assume this no longer has to do with the GPU. Can anyone please help me?

My specs:

Intel Core i5 11300H

Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU + Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics card

Windows 11

It turns out it only shows the error message and doesnt load the windows screen (probably because its windows 11) but applications like steamvr and steam games can still run

It's not 100% clear but according to the GPU compatibility list here , the 3050ti is not a supported card.

It doesnt exactly say that but the * does indicate some cards are not supported. But I don't see why the 3050 ti wouldn't be supported.

Plus, as I said in the original post, I think it would say the GPU isnt compatible if that were the reason as I've had that error before. I don't think it has anything to do with the GPU but a different component.

If you search the forum for "3050ti" (this may work) you'll find lots of other posts from 3050ti owners saying their card doesn't work for Link or Airlink. I can't say I've read them all to completion but the general consensus is "yup". So even though you (and I) don't know why it's incompatible, it does appear to be. Windows 11 isn't officially supported yet either but you probably knew that already.

Have you tried Virtual Desktop? It's more relaxed about hardware requirements.

Can I open SteamVR with that?

Just checked, it says "Yes but you need a VR ready PC running Windows 10" I'm gonna try it though.

Always worth a try, especially since Windows 10 is the only officially supported OS. You can always refund it if it doesn't work.

So the 3050 ti is actually not supportd by the official oculus link app.  The 3050 ti is a really a low teir card disguised as a budget performance card.  Oculus will never support it, because its nvidia problem for releasing a sub par card.

The best bet is to use the virtual desktop work around but performance is not guaranteed.
