You need virtual desktop on both your headset and pc. You launch your games from virtual desktop through your headset.
virtual desktop is always running on your pc. It will automatically start the oculus program. and yes it go’s through air link on its own.
I hope I haven’t confused you more 😀

Im struggling here, i have virtual desktop and it shows me the same message about not being compatible. ive tried prioritizing the gpu, using an external monitor, even used steam vr test to see what gpu its using and its always the intel UHD and says it runs great, on the monitor it recommends upgrading and fails hard.

Try disabling your intel graphics in device manager.

So... I don't know anything about graphics cards but the rift requirements are for gtx 1050 or greater. Not rtx... I don't know the difference

Use DDU and remove that driver of ur graphics. THen go to Nvidia.com and download nvidia drivers
and see what happen. Latest drivers usually make the gpu to run better and try to elimate bugs.

I know I'm late, but try using Virtual Desktop.

I'll try to explain in terms that should be easier to follow. Gaming laptops tend to come with 2 graphics processors. 1 x (motherboard/cpu) integrated. Often referred to as Intel UHD GPU. And 1 x dedicated GPU, ie your 3050. The integrated GPU is designed to be low-powered and just enough to put desktop picture functionality on your screen. Because the integrated GPU by default is designated the primary GPU, Steam and Oculus software will say it's not good enough. The Steam VR Tool & Oculus software just don't know to look for a second GPU. Check the Steam store for VRMark. It's Orange Room benchmarking tool will see your 2nd GPU and tell you if it's good enough. OK so, here's your simple fix. Open your device manager (click on the Windows start button and type 'device manager'). Once opened look through the device list, and you'll see 2 graphics processors. Right click on the one that isn't the RTX 3050 and disable it. Do a restart. Now you're good to go. Just some extra info. You may have 1 or 2 video output connections on the side and/or back of your laptop. Usually HDMI or Mini Display Port. At least one of them will be physically connected to your 3050 GPU, use that one for your headset connection. You may need an adaptor/converter for this connector. Also, Once in VR, drop your laptop lid. It'll prevent the screen output wasting GPU resources. Check power management to disable sleep mode or shutdown on lid close. Also, don't allow battery saving mode, it'll prevent your GPU from being fully utilised. Have fun...

I was actually able to fix this immediately after I made this post. I did not know that this thread continued on so I did not post an update. I unfortunately set this up for a colleague of mine last year and I dont remember what I changed so it would work as normal. But there was a solution but unfortunately I dont have access to either a quest 2 or that laptop anymore.
