Oculus service crashes then reboot required to work again

I am using the 0.7 runtime with the 355.83 nvidia driver on Windows 7 64bit. Most 0.7 demos work fine(Unreal & Unity) but a couple (so far JanusVR and Sightline: The Chair - both recently updated to work with 0.7 and seemingly working for others) crash and with them also crash the service.

The config utility tells me this, and the demo scene starts but there is no head/positional tracking (and the camera doesn't turn on)

I restart the service and the config utility, but nothing works still. The config utility won't even output a diagnostics log as it tries forever. I then have to reboot my computer, but windows gets stuck on the "shutting down" message. (This part isn't that big a problem as I just press the reset button on my PC)

I've searched for this behavior on this forum+reddit but so far I seem to be the only one experiencing this. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this? The service should normally be restart-able shouldn't it?

Until I/someone finds a solution, I'm going to dual boot another (clean) Win7 install for the lulz to see if this happens.
