Offline Install?

I've been trying to get the Oculus software to install for 2 days, I have a slow internet connection and I end up leaving the install running only to come back to a "Check Connection" error. I am wondering if there's a way to get the installer to use existing downloaded files rather than trying to download them every time - so I could download the files at work where I have a reasonable network speed. Having the installer restart the full download every time is pretty annoying.

Also, has anyone tried moving downloaded games from one PC to another without having to re-download them? This works with Steam and can be done with Uplay as well. I understand that the oculus software is pretty new, but it's going to be pretty painful if I have to bring my PC to a good internet connection to get everything installed.

So if I can't have an offline installer of previus oculus home for my Oculus Rift DK2 I'LL BUY AN HTC VIVE and NOT A CV1!

Sorry, the installer needs an internet connection.

Why? Why no offline mode? I will ask that question again when it stays like that after eye tracking comes up into the mix.
People should have a choice.
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore. Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash. Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.

It is not Oculus fault. It is your fault to use DevKit2 while there is license clearly stating not to use it for business and any long term applications.
I know there was no other headset then. But it was you to consider risks.

Just now Oculus announce special edition for business. And they are promising to respond to business requests promptly. You could try if you have spare $900.

As for version 1.3... it is possible to copy it from other computer to new one.
You could try "restore backup" to other one. Or try to copy files and registry entries. I have seen this works.

ps. dk2 is open source now. see dev blog post.

It is not my fault, because I had no say in the equipment being purchased. it is also not the fault of the one who did make that decision, because it was the only HMD available with proper refresh-rate, resolution and scientifically validated eye tracking hardware + software. If any case, it is Apple's for not allowing SMI to continue support for the device.

I do partially blame Oculus, because if they would have offered an offline installer like a almost all the other hardware/software we and many other people use, we would have been allowed to have enough control to solve the issue easily.

We have managed to resolve the issue in a creative manner that required a lot of time to implement and test.

We have also ordered Vives will not be moving forward with Oculus-hardware in the future.

Wow .. new to Oculus and I am struggling with downloading just the software.   I have a brand new VR ready laptop and I have been struggling for two days to get the software loaded.   I had to reinstall after it locked up while trying to download the game Lone Echo which took two days to lock up and not download.   This is so frustrating.  I want to actually play something on my Oculus Rift that I purchased a week ago and planned to enjoy on my vacation days which are now over so a complete waste of a week and still haven't been able to play.  I own PlayStation 4 and the VR headset.  It was a dream to download and the games load over night while I sleep.  I tried leaving this one and came back to a locked up screen and system.   Grumble, Grumble, Grumble.   So if PlayStation can do - why can't Oculus do it?  Or am I missing something?  I am not computer savvy so perhaps someone can help?

Start here:

Try putting your laptop in performance mode under power settings.  (make sure to disable HD turn off)
Make sure your firewall isn't closing unused connections coming from your IP. (Default timeout is typically 15 minutes)
Make sure User Access Control is disabled.. (Key for installing any invasive software)
Disable/suspend any AV or malware protection (not going there) you may have running.
If you have any anti-ransomeware programs running, disable those.  There are lots of files going to be changing.

Oculus is neither user nor privacy friendly.  Although Oculus is a better product, you really are better off looking to Vive.

And the wonderful company Oculus was infected with the malware known as Facebook, so good luck.

i have 100mbps connecrtion but only get like 3 to 4 mbps speed when installing from oculus. I get like 40 to 80 mbps downloading game from steam though. Why not put offline installer like nvidia does with their drivers. Come on!

This is ridiculous. 250Kbps on a gigabit connection.

That needs peer to peer download option 🙂
