[On-going Issue] Meta Quest Remote Desktop stuck on "Loading" on macOS

dixonsix
Protege

Install Meta Quest Remote Desktop.

I will see the virtual audio driver in the sound menu but cannot select it.

When I run the Meta Quest Remote Desktop app the virtual audio driver disappears from the sound menu and the app is stuck on the loading screen.

when I try and quit the app using the top bar drop down menu the app freezes and I have to force quit it.

The HAL plugin still is in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/OculusRemoteDesktopASP.driver but the virtual audio driver never shows again, even after restart.

All this leads me to believe the app is hanging on trying to initialize the audio plug-in which is messed up somehow?

Hey everyone! I want to check back in to see if y'all are still having this issue. If so, I'd like to collect some information to bring to our engineering team so they can look into this further. If you're still having this issue, please reach back out to me with the following:

  • What's the full version number of your PC app? (59.0.0.####### or likewise)
    • General > Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  • Are you opted into the PTC (Public Test Channel)
  • macOS version Monterey 12.6.9 (let me know if this has changed or is different than your current OS version)

Thanks for everyone's patience thus far! I look forward to hearing back from y'all!

Hey @dixonsix! I finally heard back from out team on this and they provided me with some news. Most of Workroom's features have been deprecated at the end of May including Remote Desktop. They mention that an email was sent out to all Workrooms users signed up, so I would recommend check for that email for more information.

With the deprecation of Remote Desktop, the team is not actively working to resolve any of the issues that it had. I know this isn't what y'all want to hear, as Remote Desktop is an important tool for Mac users when using Workrooms in VR, but I wouldn't lose hope that some better will come in the future!

Thank you all for your patience during this time, it's greatly appreciated! Feel free to keep an eye on the Meta Quest Blog for updates on new things to come to Horizon Workrooms.

Hi there @dixonsix, we were strolling by and noticed that you are having some issues with the MQRD audio. We understand the importance of being able to hear in VR and have the app work as intended. We would love to do all that we can to assist you on this matter!

Since this issue seems a bit sticky, let's see if these steps can get rid it. Can you please review the following:

  • Disable any VPN, firewall, and antivirus software you may have.
  • Plugging in or unplugging an audio device while using Meta Quest Remote Desktop may cause issues. Please wait until the application is closed.
  • Uninstall the MQRD software.
    • Removing Meta Quest Remote Desktop by dragging the application to the trash will not uninstall the virtual audio device. Please run the uninstaller to completely uninstall Meta Quest Remote Desktop.

Please let us know how this goes!

Actually I'm having issues with the remote app being stuck at loading. I was just suspecting it was due to the audio driver. Does anyone have the remote app working on macOS Monterery?

Hey again @dixonsix, thank you for the update!

We did want to clarify, are you  having issues with the Horizon Workrooms Remote Desktop feature, or the Remote Display (Beta) application? Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the application?

Horizon Workrooms Remote Desktop is stuck on "loading" on my macOS Monterey Mac Pro system.

And I have reinstalled.

And I have removed the HAL audio plugin and reinstalled.

We're glad to be hearing back from you in regards to this. We definitely want to get you back to gaming as soon as possible. So rest assured, we'll be happy to continue working to resolve this with you.

Thank you for clarifying what steps you've already attempted to troubleshoot. We'd like to clarify a few more details with you, that can help us determine the next steps in this process:

  • Are your GPU drivers up to date?
  • Is this issue only occurring while using the Remote Desktop App?
  • Have you tried restarting your PC and manually re-installing Oculus home?
  • Have you attempted to connect to a different Network/Router?

We'll be looking forward to hearing back from you on this.
