PCVR Issues After Recent Update

RareYellowAnt

After the Meta PCVR app received an update last week (I got the update on the 5th June), the app has now been crashing often.

When playing games (in my case I play a lot of POPULATION:ONE), the screen in the headset will freeze and there is no way to fix it unless you restart the PC, etc.

It also seems that when it happens once, it will start happening in quick succession.

For example when using the Meta PCVR app last night, I was ok for a while, crashed and then crashed again within 30-45 minutes.

If it crashes that often, basically makes the app unusable.

It's also been more than just myself, my friends also on PCVR have been experiencing the same issue.

Now on version: 77.0.0.574.329 (1 update since I started have the issues after last weeks update), crashing even more frequently.

Also with latest non-beta meta link app v77 update version (2 days ago) and all's with my Q3/rtx4090/Air Link and QPro/Link (except for the wireless bitrate throttling issue that now seems fixed with the latest PTC v78).  Both headsets on non-PTC v77.1027 and Win11 pro.

Also tested a few flight/racing sims with a few friends Q2/rtx2080s/Link/win11, Q3/rtx3090/Link/win11, and Rift cv1 with 1080ti/win10.  All of these are working fine, without any disconnect issues.

So, I'm not sure what's causing your issues (and your reported friends) but I suspect it's related to something besides the v77 updates.  Could be caused by a lot of things like Windows updates, GPU driver updates, and/or background processes.  Who knows?  You may want to try enrolling in PTC v78 and meta-link beta v78 to see if this helps.  Up to you to decide whether to try this.

Otherwise, I suggest you contact meta support including your logfiles (google how to do this) and see if they can identify what may be causing your issues.  Good luck mate and cheers.

Hi,

I don't know what to say in your case,

I wasn't crashing at all until last week's update where I began crashing 2-3 times a day.

Then once I updated again to the most recent version, I can barely open a game without crashing.

The only thing to change is their software, I appreciate different people may have different experiences but at the moment I have no reason to suspect that it is down to anything hardware related.

One of said friends had to use the repair tool 5 times in one day to allow them to keep playing.

I tried the repair tool and there was no change.

I also have connected with support and shared logs to which they said I needed to update my GPU driver...when my GPU has the most up to date driver 🤷‍:male_sign:

But in my experience with past issues, they try to blame something hardware related until a magic update comes out that fixes things.

Standalone Quests have also had crashing issues recently, now PCVR (for some of us at least) have joined them.

It isn't that I disconnect, it's that the game in the headset freezes and then moving your head creates a weird effect. Sometimes it doesn't happen straight away, I'll be half way through a round of a game and it'll happen but once it happens the first time...it just keeps going.

As I say, appreciate you've had your own experience but myself and people I play with (who have differing set ups to me) are experiencing issues.
