Pairing code woes: recognizes Quest 3 and entry of code, "something went wrong"

We have a meta quest 3 that I'm hoping to pair with Meta Horizon App on my phone.  

Steps - 
Open app on IPhone

- confirmed latest version of sofware; have deleted and reinstalled app as well. 

Selection of HeadSet icon in uppor left of app: 
- Brings option to pair headset. 
- I choose meta quest 3 which matches our product. 

Choose Account to add your headset. 
- I choose our child's account. 
- Headset is already connected to wifi so, I sellect that option.
(Looking for headset) 
(Headset found) 
Given a screen to Pair app to headset.
Pairing lets you discover apps, find friends, cast and share from your phone.  
Look into your headset for a 5 digit code and enter it here. 

On headset - Settings -> About -> We can see the pairing code. 

Entry of this on the app screen asking for 5 digit code. 

(checking headset status) - for a moment. 

Something went wrong. 
Please try again. If you're still having trouble, you may need to restart the app or update to the latest version. 

I have gone through, try again, update of app, restarting both phone and device.  
The device did trigger an update upon a restart earlier. 

What other things could I try to get past this? 
My goal was simply to get a game that I've purchased for our child to use.  
It cannot be seen on the device after I have purchased it, even though her account is configured and showing correctly from a previous round of setup. 

Other note for history/detail - 
This was originally a gift from the start of the year, we've had to return the first device and this is the second.  
This has not yet been functional for her and she's with basic features at best; this is the first attempt at adding an app to it that was purchased today .
