Hi
I have just brought a meta 3 as an upgrade from my original oculus rift.
This is my first my first time using the wifi version of this device.
My issue is:
When using SteamLink to use my Pc steam library with my new Vr it loads up fine and runs smooth...then i get a lag spike about 5 seconds long and then back to smooth. I didnt expect it to be prefect however the strange behaviour seems to be at the same interval each time like something is causing the issue at a very specific interval.
I have done a little research into the issue and have had multiple attempts at using guides to fix the issue such as:
turning off any hardware monitoring software
Turning off any video capture software
Checking to see if power saving utilities are set to off
Turned off all Bluetooth devices nearby
Checked hardware via control panel performance - no irregular spikes in ram/cpu or gpu
checked network adaptor settings and network power settings.
played a game in the meta software (worked fine without spikes)
used a cable connection (same spikes which leads me to believe its not wifi related)
A number of redit posts and meta posts have been made to no answers other than using oculus killer to basically nuke the meta software and only run steamVr to remove the lag spikes which seem to be the prevailing fix at this point. Is there something in the meta software that pings or does a check every 2 mins?
i will be talking with steam also however from the posts already made by steam its not their software as it effects the virtual desktop and open air also for different people.
I hope i have articulated my issue. feel free to ask more questions.
Thanks Dan

@omgwaff maybe this will reduce the lag/spikes
I've finally solved the age old Stuttering issue with SteamVR games & Quest Headsets : r/SteamVR

Hi
thanks for the response however I believe this is in regards to overall stuttering and lag as a whole. This seems very precise like it replated to something specific. I have no issues with smoothness or continuous stuttering.
Seems this only applies to specifically software outside off the oculus. I ask the question because I have read similar stories that refer to oculus software as the culprit as it does a check during that spike of lag which causes the issue. SteamVr runs fine on the Vr headset if you remove the oculus desktop feature and use steams only. This is leading me to believe that its not the exterior software thats causing the issue but the oculous software itself interfering with the function of the other (this because people are experiencing almost the exact issue on air and virtual desktop)
I will be doing more research today before killing oculus software and opting for 3rd party software to run the device smoothly.
This is something my oculus rift never experienced on the same PC and as I know the rift is wired the lag spikes are happening with the meta 3 wired or non wired. Quite hard to test too as when you take off the headset to view the logs and check the task manager for spikes in use the headset sometimes turns to standby.
Ill look more into the issue and the link you provided
thanks alot

Just noticed a note for people.
Windows updates will change the wifi controller settings back to default and sometimes change the name of the controller. I don't know why they do it and they deny that they do but we all know they have no idea what goes on in their own system.
If this happens to anyone just go find the controller name in command prompt using the youtube video guide and re disable it.
