My quest 2 has a broken proximity sensor, the screen always turns off after 15 seconds, no matter if I set it to do it in 15 minutes or 4 hours, no cover solution works, just using sidequest and disabling it by software, but every Every time I put it on charge or turn it off manually, you have to redo the process, really frustrating, is there any way to permanently remove the sensor either physically or by software?

@mxyz.2023 Oh man, proximity sensor issues? That definitely sounds like a hassle. There isn't actually a way to disable it entirely as far as I know.
If you're having issues with it turning off right away, I'd recommend trying to cover the sensor with your finger and seeing if the display stays on for longer. If it does, it might just not be reading you close enough to the headset to stay on.
However, if you've already done a couple things. (Reboot the headset, try cleaning the sensor, etc.) I would now suggest you reach out to the support team since there might just be an issue with your sensor, they'll be sure to check any options out for you.

Yes, I tried to cover it, clean it, etc, for now I can use it by turning it on and deactivating the sensor with sidequest, but every time I turn it off and on I have to do it again, it would be great if there was some software option that allows me eliminate it permanently, Unfortunately I'm in a foreign country and the only solution they gave me was to send it, the problem is that the cost of sending and receiving it is more expensive than buying a new one, I saw that the sensor is sold on some pages so if I didn't get it a software solution will probably buy it and change it

Hi
I have the old Quest device and the new one Quest 2.
On the old Quest I have the same problem as you, since last year.
I was try to find any possible solution (Quest 1 is practicaly not able to disassemle) and only one possible is use Sidequest (or any other) SW and before every use manualy disable proximity sensor. Curenty I have it as any type of routine, and it need s till minute of work...
...but, it is uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, threr is no way how to permanently disable PS on Q1 or Q2 device. But, by my opinion, there is a way in the FW of the device. I think. in the age of Oculus, it should be possible, because "small" flexible company with interest about their customers. But Facebook? They need to sell new device, not enable a way how to return the old devices to the "production life".
If there is anybody from FB which read this story, I will be happy if I made a mistake, but this problem persist for a lot of years and nobody from FB makes anything.
But, all solution tools has FB in their hands - makes a FW in which will be PS permanently disabled or will be option to permanently disable the sensor in the new FW. May be, in any type of service menu it is possible right now (in the Android mobile phone service menu it is possible and Quest is only an another type of Android device. But, as I wrote - is it in interest of FB to help customers with old devices?

Hi
Thanks a lot for your reply and your offer to help me.
Unfortunately, all you wrote I tested in weeks ago and nothins helps.
Only one way is to diseble the proximity sensor by application, but, after restarting device (or shutdown and start) is sensor enabled and VR set unusable - must be connected to PC and sensor disabled - after this procedure everything works fine.
Because Internet is a full of crying users with the same problem and with all users accepted only one working way how to turn Quest back to the life is described above, it is really HW problem and there are only two ways how to return Quest back to the "play life":
- replace non working proximity sensor by the new one
- produce a FW which enable permanent deny of proximity sensor in the setting of Quest device
Replacing proximity sensor is not payable, because a lot of parts of Quest are damaged in the disassembling process and should by replaced finaly too.
Really is only one way - permanently disable the proximity sensor in the FW.
Thanks a lot for your care

Hi ! Thanks a bunch. We have huge issues with firmware 57. Cause the new room tracking destroys our auto-adaptive apps. Only workaround: turn off proximity sensor. Any way to turn off the proximity sensor for good? (it is always on after restart) Tanks again! Cy

Hi
No, currently is not any known way how to permanently disable the proximity sensor,
As I wrote above - only way, by my opinion, is a new FW with this functionality - but, it must be done by Meta. And it is not interesting for them to support old device and enable "new life" for it. It is much better for them if most affected users will must buy a new device of a $500, isn't it?

You can disable the proximity sensor through the Meta Quest Developer Hub. Its a bit of a hassle, as you have to set up a developer account, but it mostly works ( I have 4 headsets, have managed to disable it on 3 of them, however on one of them the proximity sensor does not get detected in the app for some reason, so it is scuffed).
