Permanently Disable Proximity Sensor

Anonymous
Not applicable

My quest 2 has a broken proximity sensor, the screen always turns off after 15 seconds, no matter if I set it to do it in 15 minutes or 4 hours, no cover solution works, just using sidequest and disabling it by software, but every Every time I put it on charge or turn it off manually, you have to redo the process, really frustrating, is there any way to permanently remove the sensor either physically or by software?

It can be disabled through the Meta Quest Developer Hub

Lovely news: I just got the Quest 3 and have this problem way worse than with the Quest 2 :)))

Hey there, @yourmothershouserightnow, thanks for reaching out to the community with this issue! We'd like to get some more information about the symptoms you are experiencing, could you let us know the process you are going through when the issue occurs? Have you also gone into the developer settings to disable the sensor as other have to resolve it? Please be as detailed as you can in your response and we'll look at what can be done to get a resolution for this! Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi

Thanks a lot for your guides. Tape will be helpful to smbd which is on the start of proximity problems. If sensor still working, only signal is a poor, it will help. But, if sensor no more working, or signal is so poor, that tape is not able to help, will help only "trick" with application, where is possible to disable sensor.
Disabling of proximity sensor is only to the next restart of Quest, unfortunately. It is the reason I told, that only Meta is able to solve this problem for ever - with a FW with posibility to proximity disabling in the setting - setting which will be valid after next restart(s).
If you disable proximity in app and shut down your quest, on next start will be proximity back enabled and will "turn to black" your quest.  After connecting to the PC and disabling the sensor, it will work normaly - but, to the next restart...

Thanks for the Developer Hub tip! this has been bugging me lately, because the current version of Unity starts throwing errors and eventually crashes, if the headset display turns off while testing in Unity editor playmode. Lifting my headset for a second to check the debug console is much more problematic than it needs to be!

Hi.

i have proximity sensor problem on the quest 3. I understand that desable it through meta quest developer hub will work till headset will reboot. then proximity sensor is activated again. not very usefull in that case. someone can give me advice on this? please?

Yes, it has to be re-applied after every reboot. Another problem I’ve found is that, when the proximity sensor is disabled, my headset often doesn’t come back from standby mode. I take it off the charger and wake it with the power button, and it just shows a black screen. Then, I have to reboot it anyway to get the headset to work again. Due to that bug, I’ve stopped disabling the sensor, and just try to live with it.

sorry i mean thanks for fast answer. bad luck then...

Now that the Quest 3S has released without a proximity sensor, is there any chance we'll get a software option to permanently disable the proximity sensor on the Quest 3?
