Play space Room set up

Optimuspdx
Explorer

Hi,

I have done a massive room set up, mapped my entire first floor of my house. I played first encounters no problem. For Drop Dead the cabin I have done the boundary turn off work around no problem. However, my issue is my play space setup randomly changes. Sometimes on Quest restart. The problems ranges from identified objects like tables, doors and windows will just show in random places in my place space not where I saved them. Sometimes the lidar scanned version of my room changes causing random polygons to show up. Other times entire walls move or disappear. There appears to be no real rhyme or reason. I’m assuming when I boot my quest up it using the Lidar to scan the room and make sure I’m in my guardian. But guardian shouldn’t affect the place space because guardian gets turned off during place space use. Help!  I have had to remap my first floor 4 times now. It will work once or twice then gets totally wonky and I have to rescan and set up which takes 30+ min since I’m doing my entire first floor.

Hey @Optimuspdx! Making sure you're able to enjoy your VR experience to the fullest is a top priority for us, so we'd be glad to lend a hand! We don't recommend mapping an entire floor to set up your play space, as it cannot work properly. We would highly suggest only mapping a room you choose to play in to have the best experience possible!

I too have this problem, And I'm only scanning one smallish room, after a few times playing, the entire room can be shifted to another floor or many meters away, in my house, I can view this from the setup menu.

Living in a house with my family means I can not keep asking people to leave the room while I rescan it!

Here is a screenshot showing the problem, This has happen numerous times! also in different rooms!

for context the room/space setup floating into next doors house should be the room directly in front off me.

Hey @RedeyedUk, we understand you're having tracking issues with your headset and we know how severely it could affect your gameplay and hamper you from having a good time in the VR world. Therefore, we intend to look further into this issue to give you the right assistance in resolving this. Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can try :

1. Make sure the tracking is turned on

By default, the headset will use 6DoF tracking, unless it has been turned off in the Guardian settings panel or lost tracking while in VR.

  • Click on the clock on the left side of the universal menu
  • Select Settings
  • Select System from the Settings panel
  • Select Headset Tracking from the left side panel
  • Make sure Headset Tracking is ticked

2. Clear your boundary history

Bear in mind that if you have multiple accounts on the same headset, boundary history will be cleared for all accounts, not just the account you are currently using.

  • Press the Oculus/Meta logo on your right controller
  • Click on the clock on the left side of the universal menu
  • Select Settings
  • In the settings panel, select Boundary
  • Select 'Clear Boundary history'
  • Redraw your Guardian boundaries by selecting 'Adjust Boundary' from the Boundary settings menu

3. Reboot the headset

  • Turn the headset off, wait a minute or two, then turn it back on.
    • A restart is a little different so turning the headset off is recommended over just restarting

4. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect tracking or pairing (such as controller covers, controller attachments, etc.)

Feel free to let us know if this doesn't help!
