'Playing in Immersive View' popup while watching Meta Quest TV shows

So I'm watching The Faceless Lady in the Meta Quest TV app on my Meta Quest Pro and occasionally when the controllers are idle while I move myself slightly on the sofa to reach for a snack, this obnoxious big 2D 'playing in immersive view' 2d pane comes up completely obscuring the content playing until I pick up the controllers to click it away.

Am I the only person experiencing this? It happens with controllers and also hand tracking. It seems to be worse with hand tracking if I bring a drink or snack close to my face it often triggers thay same popup.

It happens so frequently so far that it really hinders my watching experience with the Meta Quest TV app for this show, it seems to be the app registering a sudden movement of the head or an accidental detection of a pinch with hands when I hold a cup or can near to my face.

This is the dreaded popup:

I also noticed while watching cached episodes, it autoplays episode 5 after episode 3 instead of episode 4, despite me having episode 4 cached. Sequential episode watching isn't smooth at all for a binge watch.

Hey there, @ROBYER1,  and thanks for bringing your Meta Quest TV concerns to our attention. We know having any interruption while grabbing a quick snack or even the shows not playing changes your experience, so we'd love to get to the bottom of this!

To help us understand better, we would like to confirm the following details:

  • Current headset software version
  • Have you attempted any additional troubleshooting? If so, what?
  • Has the app been attempted to be uninstalled
  • Has this always been an issue of the menu appearing or recently started appearing?

Once we're able to gather these details, we'll continue taking a further look!

The controller not being tracked modal popping up after a while when a controller is s left idle while watching is also a really annoying teething issue while watching Meta TV content.

I am an app developer for the quest so I am familiar with updating my headset and troubleshooting. Everything is up to date on my quest pro

Thanks for the update, @ROBYER1! is the tracking lost only lost while idle or while interacting? A quick recommendation would be to keep the controller(s) inside the boundary and engage them regularly to keep "Active." Helpful details to consider if tracking is lost while gaming. Keep us posted!

I'm sat inside my boundary, idle and my controllers are on a table in front of me inside the boundary. I wanted to feed back that is it more comfortable to put the controllers down while watching content which is the cause of all these problems, nobody watches the TV while clutching a remote so I find the teething issues of the Meta TV app very noticeable from a first time watch

Right. The recommendation was to engage often to keep tracking connected. Find below more suggestions to consider while watching TV:

  • Ensure your area is well lit, with enough light to see clearly, but no direct sunlight
  • Ensure your area is free of small lights such as Christmas lights, or LED strips
  • Ensure your area is free of reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass, or polished marble
  • Ensure the tracking cameras are clean
  • Ensure your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers
  • Remove unsupported third-party accessories that may affect tracking or controller detection. For example, controller and headset covers, controller attachments, etc.
  • Remove the battery from the controller for 30 seconds
  • Try replacing the battery with a new one
  • Unpair and pair the controller to the headset

Let us know if issues persist after optimizing your play space. We'll stay tuned!
