Poor performance in "The Climb" - EVGA 980 TI HYBRID - Low GPU & CPU Usage

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems with the 980 TI?

When running The Climb, just looking around standing on the first ledge my frame rate fluctuates wildly between 50-90. All the time this is happening my CPU & GPU usage never really goes above 50/60%. I have been advised that this could be thermal throttling or interference from another program running on my system, but I can't seem to get any further on diagnosing the problem, I've tried all I can think of.

Here's a typical example of my performance on The Climb :

As you can see, CPU & GPU are low, FPS all over the place, and temperatures top out at ~40c.

Anyone managed to overcome a similar situation?

Cheers

I don't have a Rift to test, but ... recently my freshly built pc started getting incredibly slow, and I discovered that the core voltage way really low.  195 watt cpu running at 17 w.  Everything else looked ok and didn't give any clues.  New power supply fixed it.
If you have a system monitor app, look at the voltages and see if it may be off.

I hadn't considered it could be my PSU actually, I haven't needed to change in a while so skipped over it in my head I guess.

I have a Corsair 750W PSU, should that be enough? My understanding of power requirements is pretty weak to be honest, I might try unplugging all other drives, USB, etc. and see if that makes a difference.

Could you possibly advise on the type of program I could use to diagnose power problems and also the sort of things I should be looking for?

Whoa weird, it's like the game fps dropped and your cpu/gpu went to compensate as much as it could.

Your 750w power supply is enough, I have a 4790k i7 and the same EVGA Hybrid 980ti and hooked up a Kill a Watt and wasn't even close to 750w (I can't remember the exact number).  Unfortunately I don't have the game to test it.

Actually it was a Corsair 750w psu that crapped out on me.  Theoretically it's enough, and it ran well at first, it just wasn't working is what I'm saying.  It was like stuck in power saving mode.

I'm not too sure what I'm checking for this sort of thing, but I've enabled voltage monitoring within Afterburner and my GPU voltage is reaching 1.199 as (I think) I'd expect to see.

Nice one, thanks for the reassurance there. Guess it still doesn't rule out that my power supply might be going kaput like Roaster has suggested, but good to know in theory all is good.

I'm also running a 980it over clocked edition and an overclocked 5820k on a 750W with no problems

I realize this is a lot to ask, but would you mind taking a screenshot of Afterburner with same stats as mine showing. My results are generated from loading up the game on the first real level, and just looking up and around on the ledge for about 1 minute.

I'm really curious to what typical power consumption should be as mine is always around 55%.

I've made a small video (really crappy quality sorry) that demonstrates what I'm talking about. This video was taken on the start platform.

Just looking around you can see frame rate hovers between 70-80, only occasionally hitting 90, all whilst the CPU & GPU aren't even breaking a sweat.
