Just got a link cable so I can connect my quest 2 to my laptop and play vr games mainly No Man’s Sky but the performance I’m getting is awful even though my laptop is good. Here’s some info on my laptop
i7 - 13620H processor
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 4060
16GB RAM
Currently the situation is this, initially I plugged in and played with default settings and noticed when I loaded up Steam VR I got awful glitches, like seeing outlines of skyscrapers across the screen. When I tried No Man’s Sky it just got worse, then crashed, and that was with the lowest in game settings possible. So after some googling, I lowered the resolution in the oculus app to 0.6 and of course kept 72HZ and this stopped the screen glitches but the game looks as bad as when I played it on a ps4 with psvr1 so as bad as 10 year old tech.
I’ve tested all sorts of stuff, I can’t even go to 0.7 resolution without serious lag, screen glitches and crashes with 0.8 or higher, and forget anything other then lowest possible settings in No Man’s Sky. I was given a tip to go to debug tool and set fov to 0.8 and this did slightly raise performance where I could go to 0.8 resolution without serious lag screen tearing etc but it’s like tunnel vision.
Im not expecting superb performance n graphics but seriously I should be getting better then psvr1 n ps4 graphics with my set up surely. Please help im going out of my mind here, whats a good set up with the debug tool for my laptop.
And just to confirm …
Im on high performance laptop settings… I tried No Man’s Sky without VR and it automatically set me up with ultra on everything and performance was excellent so no issues with laptop.
i did a cable test and get 2.2 Gbps and USB 3

I followed this step by step direction to get the most performance that I could out of my PC for gaming and PCVR.
I saw roughly 35-65 fps increase (depends on the game I am playing)
One thing to consider. If you use your PC for more than just gaming, create another user that is specifically for gaming. That way you can tweak settings specifically for game performance.

Thanks for your reply. Do you think raising the frame rate will help ? I’m finding that the gpu is at 100% and ram and vram is 85-95% so wondering if that’s the cause and I need to drop that somehow

If you raise the frame rate you will just see dropped frames and an increase of stuttering.
The adjustments in that video streamline the PC to remove unneeded processes and services. It also sets all of the settings for gaming and video to the best for performance.
Then you will, hopefully, see a massive improvement without doing anything extra past the things in the video.

Tried doing the settings on the YouTube video and now my vr games don’t even load, I get a big error message, no increase really in frame rate on cities skylines 2 that I’m currently playing and monitoring FPS constantly. I did a restore point but it won’t restore to that point saying error etc. I don’t like my laptop now, it’s missing stuff and flashes white whenever I load up something like web browser or folder. Gonna have to reinstall windows now, hopefully I won’t lose stuff

I'm sorry you are having issues. I'm not sure why it isn’t allowing you to use the restore point. That should just put you right back to the status you were before any changes.

it’s ok I’m doing a windows reinstall now, hopefully I’ve not lost my game save data as I chose not to delete any files but it’s deleted the games/apps
