Possibly defective DK2 unit. Many details.

So I already sent the following to oculus support, BUT I would like to know if there are others who are experiencing this too.

I have some rather strange pixel interaction happening with the display on the DK2. Small green vertical lines three pixels long. All of them appear along the middle of the screen horizontally. However, they are not always present. There appears to be a very precise interaction that happens to cause this.

Before I go on I will tell you what I attempted:
- Messing with all the wires to make sure those weren't the issue
- Plugged HDMI directly into GPU (only on the AMD card)
- Plugged into GPU using the the DVI adapter
- Used two different GPUs (Nvidia GTX 460 and AMD 7870)
- I installed different GPU drivers and redid the above
- Messed with color calibration of the screen via drivers

At this point I figured it wasn't wires or GPUs. So I messed with one of the lines by moving things of different colors over it, it disappeared... what?! So I downloaded UDPixel and ran through every color, at this point I thought it was due to black back ground, BUT I found that the line was not present during any of the colors of UDPixel. It was however consistently present with the current background (a darker grayish black) and with the dark gray options box in the Oculus Configurations Utility's show demo scene thing. Also, a lot come up in the demo scene, very noticeable. So I try to recreate this by opening mspaint and attempting to match the color that the green lines tend to interact with. No success. Here is the really weird part, were there is a consistent green line due to a static background image the green lines will disappear if I change some of the pixel colors of other pixels about 30 or so pixels below them. I really have no clue where to go from here. My best guess is it is a defect with the screen, but it is so odd with how it interacts that I am unsure.

Searching for others with this problem is difficult because the search results get flooded with people talking about the green lines from the IPD measurement tool. However, I did find one other with this issue. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v1/url?u=http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2dn2ho/green_arti...

Anyways, does this not occur on your units at the office? Is this just a defective unit??

hi Jay,

maybe i have a related issue here.

once in a while, i get an occasional 1 second black screen in the rift
while playing (this happens both in iracing and assetto corsa, so should
not be a one game bug), and sometimes i can see a vertical green line
in the center while this black screen occurs.

then it returns to the game like nothing happened.

did you find a solution to your issue?

@aledmb: Is there any way to take a photo or video of the issues?

I'd try a different video port is possible (for example over DVI with the included adapter).

i'll try to capture a session and post a video when it happens again.

in the meantime, will try shutting down all other processes and
change to the other DVI port or directly to the HDMI port.

thanks for the quick reply!

the rift was connected through the hdmi/dvi adapter and now
i've changed it to hdmi directly.

looks like it solved the problem... i'll have to wait a few more
days to be sure.

thanks for your help!
