So I have BOTH a Quest 2 and Quest 3.  I can Cast to other Chromecast devices with the Quest 2 but not so with the Quest 3.  Why is that?

Hey everyone. I just received word from our internal team and it looks like our casting article was updated a few days ago. From catching up on it, chromecast is not fully supported with Meta Quest, so there will be some issues that may come up while trying to cast. If you're not able to cast from your primary account to chromecast, I highly recommend submitting a bug report for our engineers to flag.

Hi since I've bought my quest 2 I've been unable to cast it to my tv or any tv infact. I can easily cast to my phone no problem but no matter what I do it won't give me an option to connect to my tv. I've made sure it's connected to the same WiFi and I've also press other device on the cast to option but even after that nothing comes up. I don't know what to do and it's been like this since I've bought it so I'm not sure if it's defected or if there's something I can do. I know for a fact my tv isn't a problem because I can cast YouTube and Netflix without a problem but it's just the oculus app that doesn't show my tv as an option to cast to even though its connect to the same WiFi.

Hey there! We know sharing your experience with family and friends should be a breeze, so we'd love to help out.

In order to gain a bit more insight, could you answer the following:

  1. Is your network a mesh network? (extenders being used)
  2. Are they all on the same channel? (If your network has 2.4G and 5G, please ensure they're all on the 5G)
  3. Are you able to cast to other phones as well?
  4. Does your TV have Chromecast by chance?
    • Casting is only available for Chromecast, and Firesticks/other devices would not be supported for use.

We also want to share that although TVs with built-in Chromecast or other smart functionality may be supported, compatibility cannot be guaranteed with all models.

Hello,

I am experience the exact same problem. We got the Meta Quest 2 for Christmas and it won't cast to our Vizio TV (with built in Chromecast), but will to our Android phones. The headset and TV are on the same channel network, and using Chromecast from our phones for other apps (YouTube) works. Really frustrating for the kids

Hey AJ24rio, thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. We totally get why this bothers you and we want to help you get back to casting your device to the TV! If you're having issues trying to cast:

  • Restart your headset, phone and your casting device.
  • Before you begin casting, make sure your headset and the device that you’re casting to can directly communicate with each other.
  • Check for software updates on your headset, phone and your casting device.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.

If the issue still persists after trying this, visit Google's Chromecast Help page. This is because while TVs with built-in Chromecast or other smart functionality may be supported, but compatibility can't be guaranteed with all models.

Please also remember that using mesh networks or wireless extenders may not support casting due to blocks for security purposes. Let us know how this works out for you!

I have 3 Vizio models with built in Chromecast the exact same, just different sizes. My Oculus can cast to the two smaller sizes, but not the larger tv. No mesh, all on the same wifi network. All the same IP. All the same firmware on the TV's. I was able to cast to all 3 TV's with no problem until about July when my Oculus updated, I could no longer cast to the largest tv.

Hi, I’ve been having a problem where I try to cast my Oculus to my tv and a message pops up on my phone saying that there was a casting error. I’ve also tried casting to my tv directly from the oculus but another message pops up saying that there was a casting/live-streaming error. I was able to cast my gameplay on the tv a few weeks ago, but now I can’t cast onto it. I can cast on my phone no problem, but for some reason I can’t with my tv. I’ve tried other tvs around my house and the same message appears. If you could help me with this, that would be amazing. Thanks!

Hey there, @MMipp! Not to worry, we'll be happy to assist you in getting this sorted out. We understand how being unable to cast to your TV can be a bit confusing. Rest assured that you're in good hands, and we'll get it fixed with your help. We'll start with the requirements you'll need to have in order for it to work and start casting!

In order to start casting, a few requirements must be met:

  • Both the headset and the receiving device need to be connected to the same local area network (Generally this just means connected through the same router, though it may be more complex on public or enterprise systems)
  • Best practice is to have the headset connected through 5Ghz, though 2.4Ghz may still work at limited quality
  • When casting to a computer or mobile app, both the headset and the device displaying the cast must be logged into the same account
    • This limits secondary accounts from casting to the mobile app, as a secondary account cannot be connected to an app

Please let us know how it goes so we can determine if any additional steps are required.

I’ve checked and everything is connected to the same network. When I try and cast it, it’ll start to load and say that a casting request was sent. It’ll seem like everything was working, but it’ll suddenly stop and say there was a casting/livestreaming error.
