Problem redeeming gift cards

donjjones
Explorer

My stepson is having trouble redeeming a couple of gift cards he's received.  When we do it from the website, we get the error message "Error performing query."  Also tried this from a mobile device and on the cellular network rather than my wifi in case it was the connection and I got the same exact error.  Tried doing it on the app and there's no option to do so.  He's under 13 as well if that matters any.  Please advise why it's so difficult to do something simple like redeem a gift card.  One more detail, this is happening with both of the gift cards we have (tried 2 different cards)

I did see other postings by @MetaQuestSupport to DM them but when I go to submit I get the error message "You have reached the limit for number of private messages that you can send for now. Please try again later." even though I've never sent a single private message.

What a comedy of errors and headaches for something that needs to be more family friendly to get working.   Not sure how the average non-technical person gets any of this to work properly.

Hi @donjjones 🙂

He's under 13 as well if that matters any.

I think that's the reason for your problems.

As far as I know, you can't add payment methods to a child account (10-12)...not even a gift card.

You can redeem the gift cards with your account and then buy and gift your stepson the games he wants.

Hi @donjjones 🙂

I think that's the reason for your problems.

I didn't have to end up gifting it, it appears when I purchased as a parent in the family setup or whatever it's called it allowed the children under the account to install it after requesting permission

Yes, you can share the game.

But if you do it this way (buy and then share), the game is tied to your account.

If you use the gift button instead of the buy button, the game will be tied to your stepson's account.

When he gets older and maybe sets up a quest with his account as an admin, he can still use all the games that are on his account, but he won't be able to use the games tied to your account.

So it might be better to have the games he loves on his account...but that's your decision.

It wouldn't allow me to gift it, it only allowed me to buy then share.  Is that because he is under the family and is still under 13?

Do you not have the "gift" button?

I do however it doesn't do anything when I try to use it.  Tried with multiple kids on different devices that are all part of the family group.  It only allowed me to buy it myself and grant permission to the child to use.

When you use the gift button, your followers list should open up so you can select the person you want to gift the app/game to.

Does this happen?

I am 59 so not a child, I was given 2 gift cards so I could get golf+ pass. Had no problems adding them but they are no no where to be seen, is this some scam Meta runs???

Hi @RalphMalph 🙂

just to confirm.... you can't see the amount in the wallet from the Horizon app on your phone?
