Quest 2 - ASW problem :-(

Hi. Whenever I enable ASW in a game such as X-Plane, parts of the screen, such as the sky and any water, flash rapidly; objects like the tops trees flicker too, where they get 'caught up' in the zone that is flashing. If I disable ASW, that issue goes away; but then any moving objects leave ghost images of themselves.

So, I can either in effect see double or triple for all moving images (apart from very slow ones), or put up with the awful flickering. Not much of a choice... in fact, it's a bit of a 'deal breaker' and very depressing, pretty much preventing me from using VR in the games at all.

Well, I went ahead and bought a Quest 3 - and exactly the same problem with that!! No comment as to my feelings required, I think.

Has anyone, please!, a solution to this? How come Meta have not fixed this ASW flashing issue with an update? It is referred to in many threads in many forums. Just one example:

Thank you for any help.

I don't think there is a solution. I think it's a bug which Meta need to fix but won't. It seems that it only happens with RTX40 series cards. Are you using an RTX40 card?

Yes, I am; and that would explain why I didn't notice this with my old RTX2070S! I now use an RTX4070Ti Super. Thanks for the heads up - Meta are currently corresponding with me on this and have asked me for logs etc., so maybe an update will fix it one day.

Is there anything new on this topic  ???
I have a new Q3 and the same problem.
I only use VR for flight simulation XP11/12, MSFS and in every program I have perfect sharpness and fluidity of simulation, but only with ASW enabled - and then these disgusting artifacts appear in clear sky.
When ASW is disabled, the simulation is still very smooth, but then I have disgusting ghosting effect.

Basically no option is acceptable.
Is there any solution to this problem ???

All you can do is submit a bug report and hope that Meta receive enough to make them do something about it. Sadly I don't think Meta care about PCVR so they probably won't fix it.

Thanks.
So what solution is proposed, without using AirLink/VD ???

Unfortunately unless Meta fix the problem there's nothing you can do. I fly with a few clouds in the sky which stops the shimmering but if you want to fly with a cloudless sky you'll need Meta to fix it

Yes, I also use this trick with clouds (and possibly with waves on a calm sea), but the problem is that 99% of the time I have always flown in real weather.... and spring and summer are coming, so there will be more sunny weather 😉

PS. Just my loose observationin XP11/12 ...
With ASW enabled (45) I can move the XP11 settings sliders almost to the right (except AA = 2xSSAA+FXAA) and I have a super smooth simulation even when performing acrobatics in demanding city scenery. If it were not for these artifacts in the clear sky/water, I would be more than happy...
I noticed by accident that if I place an open window of any open plugin (e.g. X-ATC-Chatter or VR_Tools, etc.) in the cockpit window view, then the artifacts in the sky become almost invisible. If I could create a simple lua script that would be just a transparent empty window, maybe that would be a temporary workaround. But I'm too stupid for that 😉
These are just random thoughts...

What is interesting is that some people using Q3 with ASW mode off achieve good impressions - i.e. no ghosting effect ... (???)
I thought that maybe my goggles were faulty, so I borrowed another one, but the effect is the same...
I am also considering the possibility that my cable is damaged, but on the other hand USB 3 tests show 2.6-2.9 GBps ...

I think some people notice things like ghosting and stuttering and others don't. I doubt there's anything wrong with your headset or USB, you probably just notice the ghosting more than some people
