Quest 2 Casting to PC stopped working. "Something went wrong"

I’ve searched through older posts, Reddit, and everything I could find on Google, but nothing seems to work. Based on other posts in the forum, it seems like nobody has ever found a solution to this problem.

I’m a streamer, and I got a Quest 2 to stream some standalone games and PCVR games to Twitch. To do this, I need the casting feature to work on my PC browser. It works perfectly on other computers, phones, tablets, and even on the TV browser, but it won’t work on my main streaming PC.

Every time I try to cast, I get the message:

Something went wrong. Try refreshing the page and casting from your headset again.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Changing Quest account – didn’t work
  • Factory reset – didn’t help
  • Changing internet – didn’t work
  • Router reset – didn’t work
  • No firewall enabled
  • Tested the connection on both public and private networks – neither worked
  • Everything is on the same Wi-Fi network
  • Tried using both Chrome and Edge – same problem

I really need to solve this. I can cast to the PC using Sidequest or the Air Receiver app, but neither of those capture my microphone.

Hello! I am currently struggeling with the exact same issue. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

Hi there,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand that you are having issues streaming with  your quest 2.

We also read in your statement that you have tried the headset on different devices and it works perfectly.

This could be a compatibility issue between this particular PC and the headset (please look at PC compatibility).

You may also be using other software that may interfere with your device.

This can be due to different factors.

For example :

  • Only the primary account on your headset can cast to a mobile device. The primary account must also be logged in to the Meta Horizon mobile app on the same mobile device that you want to cast to.
  • Secondary accounts can cast to Chromecast devices and web browsers, but not to mobile devices. To cast from a secondary account, start the casting session in VR and select a Chromecast device or computer on the same network as your headset.
    • If casting to a computer, make sure that you're logged in with the secondary account on your browser. You can log in at oculus.com/casting.
    • Primary accounts can also cast to Chromecast devices and web browsers.
  • Restart your headset, phone and your casting device.

Also, if you have not done it already, please read our article on Meta quest Casting.

If the issue persists, please contact us privately with a screenshot of the error message.

See you soon !

Same issue that started recently. Could cast before on same laptop but recently stopped working. Can cast to other devices just fine.

Hi there @ZEUSquest!

Thanks for reaching out to Meta Quest Support! We understand that you're having issues casting to your laptop from your Quest headset. We're eager to get this sorted so you can get back to gaming as soon as possible!

First of all, please confirm the following points:

  • You have waited at least 5 minutes without restarting the cast
  • The problem persists after restarting the headset and starting the cast before launching any other apps
  • You are logged into the same account both on the headset and in the browser
  • The headset and laptop are connected to the same network (and same channel, if 2Ghz and 5Ghz channels both exist - use 5Ghz for best results)

Once you've check through the list, please get back to us and let us know if you're still having issues with casting!

Thank you for your cooperation!

No, still not working. I can cast to other PCs in my house via browser. It’s just no longer working on one of my laptops. It used to always work on this laptop. In the headset it just spins next to Go to oculus.com/casting and a few seconds later the browser says, “Something went wrong. Try refreshing this page and casting from your headset again.”

Hi there @ZEUSquest, thank you for getting back in touch with us.

We are keen to try and resolve your casting issue. Can you please confirm which browser you are using? Please note that casting only works with Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

If it is not a browser issue, it may be a network issue. There is a possibility that your device and your laptop are not on the same network, therefore, you may need to split the network.

I've tried it on the latest version of Chrome and Edge. Confirmed that the same versions of Chrome and Edge on other laptops match the non-working laptop and the other laptops and PCs can receieve the cast just fine.

I tried in Incognito in Chrome and In-Private browsing on Edge.

I created a new windows user and used a fresh windows profile and Chrome and still did not work.

Windows is fully up to date and so is my wireless device.

This fails via wifi and ethernet.

The headset and laptop are on the same network.

I've tried pairing the headset and latop to my cell phone hotspot to eliminate my home network as an issue and it did the same thing.

I can cast to the Meta Horizon app on my iphone, to an LG TV and to an Apple TV.

Everything the original poster has listed is the same for me.
