Quest 2 Headset front bracket includes a bar or pin. My pin broke.

Hi.  I can't find any help on the Meta site for my Quest 2.  The headset has what they call a front bracket.  The bracket includes a horizontal pin or bar that the upper strap slips through to fasten the head strap to the headset.  The bar or pin (about 1.5 inches long) on my Quest 2 has broken.  Has anyone experienced this and does anyone know of a fix?  Thanks for any help.  Rich

I had this same problem and the best way to fix it is with a cheap 3d printer pen. Just apply the molten plastic with the pen then when it just cool enough to touch, squeeze it into place around the join at the ends. I got one from Amazon and they are amazing for repairing plastic and the connection is very strong when the plastic cools. Far more so than any glue. Just make sure that you cover the lenses when you're applying the melted plastic from the pen as you don't want to damage them
I even used the same cheap pen to repair the plastic brackets on my car to hold the bumper on.

Yes I'd do it exactly that way. Repair the pin, then aply some of the melted plastic to each end of the pin using the pen and hold it in place until it cools. It should only take 30 seconds or so. Then after that, apply some more on the outside of the pin to both ends and make sure each break is covered in fresh plastic. You may need to very gently file down the plastic you applied with a tiny nail file if it makes getting the strap through difficult, but that shouldn't really b necessary if you apply the plastic carefully. My first repair attempt was with glue but even the stongest glues wouldn't hold it as strong as it is now

HI, is this solution available to other people too? My headset is out of warranty but that pin has also broken (and been lost!). Is there a spare part I can purchase and replace?

In the end, Meta was not able to help fix my Quest 2 - they just don't do that sort of thing, apparently.  The best they would do was offer me a refurbished Q2 (at their standard price for a refurbished product).  I wound up buying a Q3.  It has a similar pin - hope it lasts.  I did buy an aftermarket strap system that seems to depend less on that front pin to hold it in place (BOBOVR M3 Pro Battery Pack Head Strap) so I hope to be somewhat okay if it does break.  Good luck.

Thank you, that's really useful. I'll take a look at the strap, which I expect would be cheaper than a new headset. Just a shame that such an important part turned out to be so weak.

Thanks for the idea.  I don’t have a printer pen but after looking them up, it might be a handy tool to have around.

Question:  did you glue the broken pin back in its proper place or did you “print” a new pin?  The pin on my Q2 not only snapped off from the left and right sides, it also broke in half.  I still have it.  Maybe the printer pen could first repair the pin, then weld the pin in place?

Yes I'd do it exactly that way. Repair the pin, then aply some of the melted plastic to each end of the pin using the pen and hold it in place until it cools. It should only take 30 seconds or so. Again, many thanks for the explanation.  My original solution was to buy myself a new Q3 (which I did and it has been great!).  But my plan now is to give my old Q2 to my grandson for Christmas, loaded up with a new BOBOVR head strap system.  The BOBOVR seems to work just marginally okay without the pin but it'll be much better with a repaired pin.  So, again, thanks very much for the idea.
