I have had during this week severe issues with left screen flicker on my Quest 2.
First I thought that there was a physical damage to the left screen, but then I noticed:
Next I thought that the device might have overheated and the IC responsible for decoding the video would be the culprit. In fact, after switching the Quest2 off for an hour and restarting it, seemed to have fixed the issue, but after few minutes the flicker was back and the Quest2 wasn't hot.
After posting here and placing a PM to Meta, I got the suggestion to do a factory reset, which I did.
Afterwards (one day after, because I did not have time) I tried and everything seemed OK. I thought the problem was fixed.
But it was not: today the flicker started about half an hour of using different VR video sites.
However, it crossed my mind that the culprit could be a broken CODEC. In fact, using the browser to play VR videos on different websites, you get a different experience according to the CODEC offered by the website. I believe that some websites use a broken CODEC!
The problem is that once the browser (default one) loads the VR video CODEC from the selected website, it will use this same CODEC for all VR video sites, unless they offer a different format. This is why known good sites suddenly have the flicker, too.
Please try this:
Once the flicker starts, reboot the Quest2.
Open a "good" VR video website, from which you never had issues in the past.
Now use whatever VR video websites you want: all should work OK.
Restart Quest2 again and try a "bad" VR video website first: you will notice that the flicker is back (left screen) and all "good" VR video websites will show the flickering, too.
This is what I suspect right now.
Anyway, it is, in my opinion, the job of META to make sure that all sites use correct CODECs with the Quest2, by certifying them for the different VR video websites.
Otherwise I am sure that a lot of unnecessary RMA's will happen or are already happening. The flicker in the left screen/eye looks exactly as if a cable is intermittent, shutting down the video several times per second. It will increase if you move your head.
I think that in reality the CODEC is bad/buggy and just cannot keep up with the video bandwidth. The flick will decrease with lower video resolutions.
Hope this helps.

Exactly the same issue here. Started roughly 2 weeks ago. Probably SW update.

Hi, @viktor.henig and @dubbleflip. Thanks for making us aware of this!
I will reach out to the Meta tech overlords to see if there are any known issues regarding flickering in VR video.
Can you both confirm what version you are running on from the Version section in the System Settings?
If you both can submit a 🐛
I will reach out again on this thread if I get any updates.
