So I thought I'd share my settings I have setup on my PC just in case anyone has a similar setup and is finding it difficult to get a decent image quality whilst preserving a stable framerate using Oculus Link. (I don't use Airlink/Virtual Desktop)
My Specs are as follows;
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor 4.00 GHz
16GB - 1500Mhz DDR4 Ram
Geforce GTX 1080
I've spent a long time trying to get it just right so I'm happy with it because there is nothing more annoying to me than seeing the potential of higher settings and not being able to use them because of hardware limitations. However I feel I've found a happy balance between clarity and performance.
Oculus Debug Tool
Oculus Graphic Preferences
Steam VR Video Settings
I decided to go for 80Hz over 90hz as I don't see any discernible difference in clarity or movement, other than when things are moving very fast, which is not very often although I will say I don't play racing games so I couldn't comment on that one. The main reason for choosing 80hz though is that I can push my resolution up that little bit more to increase clarity whilst keeping the same performance. 3936 x 1984 on 90hz is classed as 1.2 and I've found it to be almost perfect but performance on bigger games such as SkyrimVR (with mods) and Half Life Alyx drops somewhat. I did cope with it for awhile with the thinking that I don't want to drop to 80hz but I'm glad I did. I've noticed there are a few older games that don't cope very well with 90hz too. SteamVR I don't mess with, alot of games don't even let you bring up the SteamVR UI within the game so I find it pointless. I just leave it on Custom at 100 percent. Default is Auto but it can sometimes make it look worse. I'm still not too sure I understand everything the Oculus Debug Tool is doing but I know that with everything set on default the clarity is bad so I just put in what most people seem to be putting in there and it looks good. If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can improve my experience other than buying new hardware, please let me know.

@Lfanvr Everything looks good to me. Only thing I suggest you do in SteamVR menu is to turn off advanced super sampling filtering. It does nothing but make things a bit blurry. You may also want to check the General tab and turn off Motion Smoothing because the Oculus ASW is much better anyway. I also disable the SteamVR Home and just use the Void with library panels. For SteamVR apps I find it best to startup SteamVR from a shortcut on my Desktop (easy to use from the Oculus Home), enter the SteamVR void, and use the left controller menu button to make the panel appear/centre. Then use either controller trigger to select games. When I want to exit a game (except it the game has it's own Quit function) I just hit the left menu button and select exit game. I then hit the right controller oculus button to exit SteamVR. I'm sure you'll find a procedure that work best for you mate.
Don't muck around with ODT fov settings because they do not seem to have any significant effect with nvidia gpu's imho.
I have a i9 9900k/rtx3090 and I've also found 80Hz refresh rate to be the sweet spot, even with racing sims. Maybe I'm lucky that I'm not very sensitive to this. With my higher end rtx3090 gpu I'm able to move the res slider fully right and the clarity is the best I've ever seen. When I use Air Link the only change I do with ODT is to change the bitrate from 500 (in my case with Link) to 0, and set the Air Link bitrate on the Oculus home dashboard to 200mbps Dynamic. Anyway, good luck mate and cheers.

I got that build but with 5700XT (which is near that 1080) months ago. Have you tried lowering the FOV and increasing the resolution? With that GPU i did maximum res or 2 or 3 points below and with 0.80-0.85 i got pretty decent performance and the image quality boost was insane. Ofc you lose FOV but i take it and get better visuals

You are awesome, so I don't know what did it but I disabled Steam Home and disabled Advanced Super Sampling and noticed the frame rate was even better so I thought I'd try a notch up on the resolution to 1.2 (again) and now it's identical to my previous setting! Plus I've noticed even at higher settings the slowdown is not as 'Juddery' as it was before. Legend!

Recently found out about the Oculus Tray Tool where you can change the Oculus SS and other settings per game. That way I just use the performance overlay to see the frame rate and overhead and push it up just enough to keep a little overhead and save the settings. Makes it so much easier to get a game running just right.
