Quest 2 - Way too blurry

Endcha

Ok, so I have just received the Quest 2 and the elite strap - unfortunately from the first moment I have noticed how blurry the screen actually is, even at the home environment. Far objects just look pixelated and blurry, there are alot of godrays, small icons from the menu smear if I dare to move my head just a little and overall it is a really disappointing experience.
It almost feels as if I have received a faulty unit since almost everybody is loving this headset and seem to really dig the screen and tell how crisp and sharp it looks, but I have encountered a reddit post with people complaining about the same thing (even Q1 owners), so I am positive that it's something with the hardware:

To clarify, my IPD is 66, I have attempted to adjust the headset, IPD and the strap for hours with no change at all.
I have opened a support ticket, but would like to know if anybody else experiences the same as I do.

there is a nice sweet spot but unless i strap my elite strap down to where I feel a pulse in my head can I keep it... pretty lame...

The sweet spot is absolutely tiny on Quest 2.  I use a setting between 2 and 3 (66 IPD) and I've also fiddled with 68 IPD.  I have to spend a bit confirming sharpness in each eye separately before I clamp down my elite strap.  Then it's good to go.  The lack of proper IPD adjustment is a huge problem on the Quest 2.

Owned a Quest 1, no IPD or visual issues, worked like a charm.

Same here. I really, really wanted it to work but no matter what I tried I could not get it clear at all. I do wear reading glasses (1.75+) and tried a few different glasses, with and without glasses spacer, and all different IPDs. My IPD is only 59mm so not sure if that is the issue. It really shouldn't be this hard to get it right, should it? What a pain. I'm hoping to see some kind of acknowledgement from Facebook on this as there are so many complaints. Hoping they can address it in a software update and then I'll give it another try, but for now it's going back to bestbuy tomorrow.

Mine has same smearing, haven't used it long and eyes feel strained and everything looks smeared unless im not looking directly at it. Gonna return it and get a new one and see if its any different.

I returned mine. Didn't even get a reply from Oculus support. What a joke.

Same issue on mine and I've had two quest 2s in two days. Both manufactured in December. Seem like awful lenses being used, certainly can't see how people can say how great it looks if this is the norm. Probably return it as it seems like a real lucky dip to get one that isn't blurry and full of halos.

Just asking coz I had a similar problem with one lens and it was gum residue left over from peeling the protector stickers off. I rubbed it carefully with my finger and the gum came off

It definitely has taken me a while to get used to finding a position that is simultaneously comfortable and my sweet spot. Initially I could only get it looking good by tightening the strap around my head so tightly that it was super uncomfortable after 20 min. Then I realized I wasn’t putting the....nose part (?) on my nose enough. So I started with that as my baseline and messed with the angle from there. This has been massively working for me.

Don’t get me wrong, the very far away buildings/forests in fallout VR certainly don’t look as good as they do in non VR, but my computer can also play the pancake version in 1440 with the settings all the way up, whereas the VR port doesn’t even HAVE variable settings and runs my complete really hard.

I seem to have found a solution for me. Mostly anyway. I almost returned it too, the text at the Check Focus screen was too blurry at the periphery. Then I decided to try wearing my reading glasses (which most people say does not help). So I put in the eyeglass spacer and put on reading glasses, and that fixed most of it. Text is still a bit blurry at the periphery, but I also realized after using the Oculus for a while now how rare one has to read text, and that most video looks pretty good--the slight periphery blur is not too noticeable in the overall experience. Could be better, but good enough.

Interesting, I would have said in most cases reading glasses would make it worse. However, if you're truly long sighted and struggle to focus as close as 1.5m then yes I would see that they would help. I would probably say that prescription reading/long-sighted glasses would probably help whereas off the shelf generic reading glasses would probably make things worse as they would correct too much, making the optimal focus distance somewhere closer than 1.5m.
