Quest 2 loses Wi-Fi connection when starting up steam link

Repulse1916

I got a quest 2 for christmas of 2023 and it worked fine then I shelved it for a while due to work stuff not allowing me the time to play but when i went to use it again it suddenly has a new issue where when I start up steam link to play war thunder specifically in vr mode as soon as I connect to my pc and everything starts loading, I get a notification that the headset has lost connection to the wifi.  I know literally nothing about PCs aside from turning them on and playing games so I do not understand anything technical about them or what is possibly wrong here, I have tried googling this and not found anything about how to solve this that I can even remotely understand.

Sorry, I have been busy lately.  the notification that I get is just that there is no internet connection all of a sudden even though it had a strong connection at the quest menu.  I have never done anything outside of steam vr before because steam is where I have all my games and I have none on the quest itself.  and the only change was I installed a new router in my room when I first got the headset but it worked back then and after a couple of months of not using the headset suddenly it has this issue.

It's perfectly fine, @Repulse1916; no need to apologize. We are just glad you were able to get back to us! Thank you for giving us the information, but we still have some questions for you to answer. Could you answer the following?

  1. Have you tried using your Quest 2 in standalone mode (not using PCVR)? If so, does it connect to the WiFi?
  2. Are you using Quest Link or Air Link (hard wire vs. using straight wifi to connect to your PC)?
  3. Is the wifi router connected using an Ethernet cable (from the router to your PC)?

We hope to hear from you soon. Please enjoy your day as well!

1. I have no games on the headset so I dont think I can use it standalone.

2. all I know is that the headset does the same thing whether  I have the link cable connected or not I know nothing of quest link or air link or what they are.

3. the router is hard wired to my PC and both are within 3 feet of the headset because I only use it seated at my desk.

when it comes to computers I pretty much know nothing other than the absolute basics of power on power off and using the internet browser so any possible solutions will have to be thoroughly dumbed down and explained.

Thank you for getting back to us with the answers to our questions. We do have a few more questions to ask, just so we can fully understand the situation and best be able to help you. Can you answer the following?

  1. Have you updated the Quest 2 headset? To see how to check and get steps on how to update your headset, click here.
  2. If possible, can you attempt to download and play a free game from the Meta Store? You can view the free games for PCVR here.
  3. Have you attempted a factory reset? You can view the steps here.

We hope to hear from you soon!
