So, I have recently discovered a huge potential problem. I started to notice that my Quest 2 won't charge - even though it would show that it's charging both by LED and the battery icon.
After using the Link, I always sit the Quest 2 down and power it off (holding the PWR button), still attached to my PC. The LED showed orange all the time, so I didn't look into it and thought that all is well. Then, I started to notice that my Quest 2 is not at 100% after picking it up to play the next day. Moreover, it appeared stuck on the same percentage that it was the day before.
So I started to dig into this:
1. Official Link cable + laptop = not charging (orange LED, stuck at the same %)
2. Official Link cable + Quest 2 charger = not charging (orange LED, stuck at the same %)
3. Asus USB-C laptop charger = not charging (orange LED, stuck at the same %)
After some Googling, I have tried to charge the Quest 2 in the DFU mode (PWR + volume down). I enabled it and sit the Quest 2 down. 'Lo and behold...it started charging. But only in DFU. The charge stopped after I turned the headset on or off.
I've downloaded USBDeview - this program lets you see all USB devices connected, USB protocols and speeds they're running at - and most importantly, the amperage going to the devices.
When the headset is off - it took 0 mA. Sitting at 53%.
When the headset is in DFU - it took 128 mA. Not much, but we take those - and it's enough to charge it very slowly.
After some cross-referencing, I nailed it down to the 39.0 update. Something is majorly screwed.
Some other interesting findings:
1. Sometimes, Quest 2 is actually charging. But never to 100%. I've noticed that it sometimes jumps from 53% that I left it at to 72% and is stuck there
2. The percentage sometimes would show 100% when powered off after being connected to the charging cable - but the battery icon would show the correct 2/4 bars - because in reality when powered on, the Quest 2 would show me something like 56-57% battery
3. The only way to charge to 100% is the DFU mode.
I cannot stress this enough, the headset is NOT physically faulty. It used to charge just fine before the 39.0 update.
And it still does so. But only in the DFU mode.
That points me towards a software issue.

I did the latest update but haven't run the power down in the battery so I don't know if the update will fix the problem.

This is crazy. I also have mine charging to 50 something percent now. As you sometime I get a 70 something but I can never charge it to 100%. I never had problem before. I always turn off my headset. Completely off.

Pathetic. 2 months, 2 firmware updates, charging is just as broken as it was left by the update to v42. Support's top tier idea is still the factory reset, or the even better signing up to the refurbished headset lottery, alongside with changing charger/cable/source, removing custom facial interface, or the one that still makes me giggle... unplugging 3rd party accessories. Oh boy, you're kidding, aren't you? I'm trying to charge it, does it ring the bell? Also, the issue was caused by a firmware update and it still does charge to 100% in DFU mode, it does use external power while the proximity sensor is triggered but the moment the sensor is not triggered anymore it completely stops using external power and starts draining the battery even though it's still plugged in, and this carries on in sleep mode.
Pathetic that the developer boys still couldn't debug it in 2 months.

If you have an external battery, disconnect it. Try charging with power completely off for 10 minutes and see if the % battery changes. If not, put in standby and charge. See if the % changes.

It's unbelievable that this still is a problem. Support completely ignores what you tell them. This is some firmware bug but if this never gets escalated to those that can fix this, it's only going to snowball. This is unacceptable from a commercial device.
The fact that you can fully charge it in the USB debug mode proves that it's not a hardware issue or a factory reset will do anything.

Hey Oculus Support,
There has been some reports from users who have the same charging issue we're having. Upon opening up their Quest to perform their own battery replacement the existing battery was puffy and swollen, indicating that it's a failing battery. After replacing the battery their Quest then charges as normal.
This brings 2 potentially SERIOUS issues.
1. That all our Quest headsets that we're still using despite the 50% max charge issue has a potentially dangerous device strapped to our faces and Meta isn't telling us about it.
2. That the workaround that's being shared to get it to charge to 100% using the DFU mode is potentially damaging the battery FURTHER and Meta isn't telling us about the potential danger of this method.
Please Meta, stop answering with templates asking us to drop a support ticket. Many of us just aren't within your service regions. Tell us exactly what the issue with the 50% charge "bug" is and if it's potentially a danger to your users. Or are you going to need someone to seriously injure themselves before you take action?
Let us know:
1. If our devices are still safe to use.
2. If the DFU charging technique is dangerous and shouldn't be used.
Thank you.

ppl are surprised that the company that cant make a functional website ( i had to sign in TWIICE to be able to reply) doesnt care about making a proper HMD. I bought the 64 gb ver ( i know i was dumb for being an early adopter) And i have had to charge through DFU for what seems like forever at this point- i just dealt with it and moved on, but now i cant since recently i bought Kiwis new battery head strap, and up until the update i was charging through its passthrough perfectly fine, charging both the internal headstrap battery and the internal quest battery at the same time with no issue, got a new update today, and guess what doesnt work anymore? I can no longer charge through passthrough- and have to unplug the battery and charge the q2 directly though the wall outlet. I also have the bobvr m2 battery headstrap and that no longer charges through - i have been through support multiple times (who like mentioned in posts above their idea is FR the system, which they KNOW does not work) and am about to rip my hair out over this. i think my update was v47. smh. This also makes me worry that if the passthrough is no longer working maybe the battery isnt being fed into the Q2 anymore, meaning i wasted even more money on this broken headset. I think im about done with meta, i have had problem after problem with this thing...

This company created programmation language, framework and changed the way everybody is using Web with React. Don't tell them they cannot make a functional website. The problem is most probably somewhere else and website is probably not managed by same team.

This problem is clearly a battery fault, i think the problem is the use of the headset while charging for so many times, shortening the battery life. The question is, PC users cant use link without charging the battery all the time. I My 64gb version got this problem after 2 years of heavilly daily use (pc link only), now i bought a 128 gb version and its fine but i am sure soon or later it will have the same problem. Oculus support is uselles, they say to reset the headset everytime. Its not a speciallist support. Sorry for all of us. If you have a Quest2 and use it with pc link be prepared, soon or later you'll find this thread. And what if you live on countrys were there's no rma possibility? Good luck!
