Quest 2 stuck in USB UPDATE MODE!! Please help!

Qupo

So I just updated to the newest version 23 around noon, spent a couple of hours playing Half-Life Alyx till the battery is very low. Turned off the device, charge it. And then tonight I unplugged the charging cable, and I notice that the sidelight doesn't turn off automatically and the light is orange instead of green for some reason. So I decided to take a peek and the screen is somehow ON and it just says USB Update Mode.

I have 5 options available on the Screen: Boot device, Device Info, Factory Reset, Sideload Update, Power Off.

None of these options work:
-Boot device would just restart the quest back to this very same screen.
-Device info just shows info of the device like serial number, Ram Size, etc.
-Factory Reset would just restart the device back to this screen just like what the Boot Device option did.
-Same with Sideload Update, it just restarts the device.
-Power Off would turn off the device. And if I turn it back on, I get the same USB Update Mode screen.

I'm at a loss here, is there a fail-safe to force Factory Reset the device? I'm seriously in need of help, I don't have the luxury of just sending the device back, unfortunately. Does anyone ever have the same experience? How can I get past this USB Update Mode screen? Thank you kindly for your help in advance.

I may have the worst from that... I did not use the headset for like 6 days... and today this menu is printed on the screen... Like the screen is now bad...

Force Quest 2 Firmware Update to v23! | TUTORIAL - YouTube

luckily i don't have this problem.  but a bit of searching suggests only two ways to fix the issue currently.
1) non-technical fix.  your quest bricked itself doing an update.  it cannot help itself out of the issue.  get it replaced via support.  looks like its a frustrating wait to get support to reply and hopefully offer to replace it.
2) somewhat technical.  forcing the update to reinstall again using your pc/mac and other bits of software.  the video linked above is doing exactly this, but in a different context.  its forcing v23 onto a quest that didn't die.  you can do the same to force v25 onto one that did.  just feed it the v25 file instead of the v23.  some instructions for mac here: https://www.oqplay.com/how-to/how-to-force-update-v25-with-app-lab-for-oculus-quest-2-working-method/

I think the fix is pretty much the same as fixing an android phone that died during an update.  better phones built a recovery option into the equivalent menu the quest is getting stuck at....  oculus?!?

anyone feeling brave and willing to try it on their dead quest 2?

Same issue here. Really poor craftsmanship to not build in a working factory reset option. I'm going to seek a replacement via my seller who gave a 2 year guarantee

The following worked for me.

I pressed and held the power and volume down buttons for like 30 seconds and got a quick orange flash on the LED. KEEP HOLDING THE BUTTONS DOWN for like another 10 seconds. At this point the LED turned to a steady orange and I was at least able to do a factory reset. Not ideal but better than a brick.

Hello! Sorry to hear about that! I clicked sideloud update, and after having a gray screen for around 5 minutes, I saw that the light beside the power button turned white (on the gray screen the light was purple). I was also desperate that I would have to return this and lose all my progress. I would recommend contacting oculus support to help. I hope you can fix the problem!

My Oculus Quest 2 is less than a month old and did the same thing.  The goggles are currently useless and Oculus told me they don't repair, they only replace.  So my hope that a software fix would be forthcoming is not an option.  My only avenue is to return my Oculus and get my money back  or to have it replaced and hope that I another USB Update is not downloaded to the replacement.
