Quest 3 Bluetooth not working when Wi-Fi is off?!

Q3D2

Got very interesting bug few days ago while trying to use my Quest during flight in flight mode with Wi-Fi set to off.

Seems my goggles refuse to use bluetooth peripherals (Apple kbd with touch ID, MS Arc mouse, Apple AirPods 3 & 2 Pro) when Wi-Fi is off. It looks strange: pairing sometimes takes ages or devices disconnect and reconnect again, audio is not routed to Airpods or is extremely jittery, the mouse can’t be paired etc. Tried to reboot and turned my Quest 3 on and off many times. Tried to pair and unpair. I spent around two hours trying to solve this during the flight. All the peripherals worked just fine at the same time with my iPhone and two Android phones.

Finally after I almost decided to buy me another VR for working during flughts I found the solution 🤦‍:male_sign:🤣 When I turned Wi-Fi back on everything started working as intended.

So Wi-Fi has to be on all the time. It even don’t need to be connected to any AP.

What can this mean? 🥶

Hey there, @Q3D2! We appreciate you reporting this issue you experienced while on your flight recently. We know how important it is to have a seamless ability to pair your Bluetooth devices to your headset, so we are more than happy to provide information on this.

All current Meta Quest headsets require a Wi-Fi connection to use and access most features and content, which includes features in travel mode. To enable travel mode, Wi-Fi must be enabled. Disabling it afterwards will cause features to not work as intended. More information about travel mode can be found on our getting started page.

We hope this information helps! If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
