Quest 3: No Sound, only when using Air Link for wireless PCVR

Captain_Kill
Explorer

Hi All,

Solved: Repair the installation of the Oculus PC app by running the installer again and selecting repair. Mine took two attempts, as the first repair crashed mid-repair.

Problem: When using Air Link to play wireless PCVR, I have no sound though the headset speakers or through headphones that are plugged into the headset. I DO have sound under all other circumstances and conditions, including playing PCVR via steam link and virtual desktop, and the headset by itself.

I am unable to locate any existing advice that goes beyond the following settings, which all appear to be in line with recommendations.

I doubt it matters, but my hardware is as follow:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045
  • Meta Link App Version 62.0.0.235.346 (62.0.0.235.346)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700x
  • Memory: 16GB DDR4
  • Mobo: TUF Gaming x570-PLUS
  • GPU: PNY GeForce RTX® 4080 16GB XLR8 Gaming Verto Epic-X

What I've tried:

  • reinstalling Oculus on the PC.
  • Setting Playback device to Oculus Virtual Audio Device.
  • A clean reinstall of windows.
  • Replace m2 drive.
  • Update drivers for bios, motherboard, cpu, gpu.
  • Ensure headset software is up to date.

Thanks for telling us, @Captain_Kill! By the way, were you able to try adjusting your audio volume through the PC application through "Settings Headset" menu to see if that helps? Also, we recommend using the specific below steps to repair your Meta Quest Link desktop app to make sure those files are in full order. Please use these steps to do so:

  1. Download and run the Oculus Installation Software (meta.com/quest/setup/)
  2. You will see a screen which says "Already Installed".
  3. Click the "Repair" option, and confirm again on the next screen.

Is sound still coming through your PC speakers? If it is, you need to change your PC audio output to "Oculus virtual audio driver" or something similar. There are windows apps to make the switching easier with hotkeys.

Hey there, @Captain_Kill! Having audio in your games can really make the VR experience all the more immersive, so we'd love to help get your Air Link connection back on track! To clarify a bit, have you ever had complete audio when using Air Link in the past? Is your PC fully compatible to support Air Link per this article? Also, when you get a chance, could you please try out the following steps in order and let us know your results?:

  1. Disconnect and toggle off Air Link on your headset in Settings
  2. Make sure your headset is fully up to date (steps found here.)
  3. Turn off your headset.
  4. Firmly hold the power and volume down (-) buttons on your headset simultaneously for about a minute, or until the boot screen loads on your headset.
  5. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight 'Boot device' and press the power button to complete that.
  6. Relaunch Air Link

Bumping this back to the top.

@metaquestsupport, yes I rebooted the headset after ensuring the headset was up to date.

I recently swapped one m2 drive for another and subsequently started from a clean slate by reinstalling Windows 10 and drivers for literally everything, including but not limited to: bios, drivers for GPU, motherboard, cpu, etc. There is still no sound only when using Airlink.

Hey @Captain_Kill. Thanks for getting back to us with these details! With this occurring on Air Link, have you been able to experience the same issue when connected to the PC via a Link Cable?

I do not have a cable that will allow for a wired connection to my PC.
