Quest 3 - Voice recording won't record my voice

I've tried recording on several different games - all with mic permissions enabled, but no matter what I do, it won't record my voice. Can someone help with this or do I need to use an external mic like an Antlion, etc.? (I'd prefer not to have to do that and would rather just use the Quest 3 mic if I could get it to work.)

Yes, thank you. I figured it out.

You have to go into record through the menu and then access settings from there in order to turn the mic on.

I had the same problem today and spent hours trying all sorts of muting and unmuting from different locations.  My goal was to record a conversation I was having with a colleague in Meta Horizon Workrooms.  All of my recordings had my colleague's voice, but not mine.  Pure silence on the video recording when I was speaking. An earlier poster said that to fix this problem you just needed to enable the microphone in the "menu".  But she did not indicate which menu.  😞   I looked and looked and looked.  Just before I resorted to a factory reset, I FOUND IT.  For anyone who is doing a video recording and not hearing their own voice during the recording - there is a FEATURE called "Include Mic Audio".  It was mysteriously turned off on my device (not sure why).  To access this feature follow this path using your headset main menu -->  SETTINGS |  SYSTEM  |  CAMERA .  Logic would say that you should find this feature under SOUND or MICROPHONE, but in this case it is specifically related to recordings.

On the Quest 3 - standalone. I'm just trying to record clips of some of the games I play and would like for it to record my audio, but it won't. At all. Ever.

Can't believe you figured it out before they did. Ai yai yai... I am awaiting my Quest three but have found I have the same problem with my Quest Two. I used to be able to record voice overs... then all of a sudden it just stopped working. Can you clarify what you said you did? "Go into record through the menu"? Is that the general menu... or a specific game's menu? (Quest had me factory reset and it didn't help me at all!) Looking forward to your Jedi-like advice. Thank u!

Hello, hello, @Bedrock13! Absolutely no user should have to move forward with these microphone issues taking away from the VR experience, so we'd love to help get your headset back on track! Since that factory reset didn't seem to work out, we'd like to recommend the next following troubleshooting steps:

  • Make sure the microphone is clean and not obstructed (the microphone is 2 pinholes located a few inches apart one on either side of the nose)
    • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may block the microphone (such as a third-party facial interface, etc.) 
  • Test with multiple games/apps
    • If happening only in one game/app, check the game/app permission to make sure microphone is enabled
  • Reset Microphone
    • Settings > System > Sound > Toggle Microphone
