Quest 3 Wired PCVR Disconnects

EdenCallaghan
Honored Guest
Here is the problem: randomly the headset (Quest3) disconnects when it is in PCVR (wired) on my Desktop PC.

This problem only occurs on this PC because in fact it works perfectly on a laptop PC.

which shows that the problem does not come from the headset or the cable.

After an incredible amount of testing, I came to the conclusion that the error must lie either between the USB 3.0 port relationship with the software, or the software itself.

Because in fact I was also able to observe a constant:
- If the headset disconnects relatively often during a session of use, it discharges relatively rarely (remains at 95 or 99% after more than 6 hours of use).
- If the headset has almost no disconnections, after 5 or 6 hours of use its battery drops to 20 or 30%.

Additional info:
- the headset is plugged directly into the USB3.0 port of the graphics card.
- the cable is a Classic cable.
- change the priority in the windows processes of the software / OVRserver ... + set Performence or Energy saving mode in the graphic option of windows, Dont change nothing, or at least too little (still geting random disconection).

After an update what two months ago? When the cable disconnected there was a notification saying do you want to reconnect. (click on yes, you will reconnect to PCVR, very practical)

But from this notice we are taken to the menu, or then by right-clicking on Link we then have access to the reconnection action. while pressing the Meta button on the right joystick brings us to the result. So in the end this notification proposes the reconnection is redundant to the fact of even pressing the button which sends us to the menu. So there are two buttons at any time that do the same thing, it's pretty useless. Please make this right and useful again for a better user experiance ^^

@EdenCallaghan  I don't have this problem using Link with my Q3.  First of all, I don't think I would use your GPU's usb-c port (indicates you have an older rtx2000 series gpu).  Maybe just try it with one of your regular usb3, 3.1, or 3.2 ports (if you have these).  Also, go into your windows device manager and check all your usb ports properties.  Make sure any power savings options are disabled.  You should also set your Power settings to high performance.

The other thing to avoid with Link is having too many unnecessary usb devices connected while using link because you may end up running out of usb bandwidth.

Assuming you have a nvidia gpu (good idea to include this info btw) then make sure your nvidia driver is fairly up to date.  I'm currently using 552.44 and it works very well, but I'd avoid the newer 555.xx series for now since there seems to be a few bugs that need ironing out.  Also, go to your nvidia control panel 3d global settings and set everything to defaults except, top option if you have a laptop set to prefer nvidia gpu, Power = prefer max performance, and change the Quality default below that to High Performance.

Anyway, I hoe this helps.  Otherwise, maybe contact Meta Support, including your log file, and see if they can identify your issue(s).  Good luck mate and cheers.

oups i mean USB-C not 3.0.

@EdenCallaghan  That’s still usb3.1 so while it may work ok you are still drawing a lot of power through your gpu/pc.  This may be causing it to throttle down and may be the reason for your disconnects.

As I already suggested I’d try another usb3 or 3.2 on your pc.  Also, could be that your pc power supply isn’t rated high enough.  Sorry, pretty impossible for me to say for sure.  Again I suggest you contact meta support including your log file.
